Someone explain this to me. How does Ole Miss attract so many students from Georgia and Texas? What do they put in the water in Oxford?

No out of state tuition and tuition is already dirt cheap. Plus it's easy to get in

Georgia and Texas
I'd imagine some of them wanted in UT, SMU, and UGA, but didn't get accepted or enough scholarship money.

It’s usually just dopey prep school kids from Dallas that read Old Row once back in high school

So what’s Ole Miss instate tuition cost?

So it’s the rich prep school kids that want to get that SEC frat experience so they choose Ole Miss?

I love that you’re hung up on Ole Miss.

I did start a thread on them the other day This one is mainly because I’m loving the replay of the 2015 smack down they laid on the tide. It’s glorious.

quote:Yep. Georgia is the only school in the SEC I would say has a better Greek system than Ole Miss. And it's damn near impossible to get in as an out of state student. Not only that, their out of state tuition is absurd.

Ole Miss has very low entrance requirements because the state forces us to, but to counteract that they make freshman courses harder than normal. You see a lot of drop outs from Ole Miss because of that. Ole Miss is weeding out the students that don't have the education to be there in the first place.

I like Ole Miss, I would have considered going there knowing what I know now.

As far as Texas is concerned, TAMU and tu are damn hard to get into. If you can’t into either and can’t afford private school your choices are Tech, Texas State, UTSA, UTA, Sam Houston, SFA, etc. If you are top quarter and didn’t get into A&M or tu, many schools offer in state tuition to Texas kids, including LSU, Arkansas, OU OM AND MSU. Would you rather go to those or the first list?
I’d go to LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss or MSU.
And if you are a male, we all know that Ole Miss has some seriously Grade A puss!

I met a lot of people that went to LSU because they couldn’t get into or afford UT or A&M. Even with out of state tuition I think LSU was cheaper than both.

Kids that can't get into A&M/tu, can't afford SMU and don't want to go to Texas State

I’d certainly choose Ole Miss over those smaller Texas schools. The only one I’d consider would be Tech. Lubbock might be a good time.

Easier to get into compared to UGA, Tech, and Auburn.
Great greek system and the college is known as a fun place. Only 5-6 hours away from most of Metro Atlanta. Allows the students to "escape" from home without really going far away.

If you look at the SEC schools.. Ole Miss is the biggest bang for its buck. It’s cheaper out of state tuition than any other school in the SEC, outside of State. It’s a great college experience for what you pay for, compared to other SEC schools out of state/non scholarship students..

I could see that being true. The only thing, Oxford seems like its in the middle of nowhere.
