You guys need to take a break from posting because it's mostly just stupid stuff that makes you look like an idiot.

I think Tulane knows what they are. Its a stepping stone job they know this. Willie Fritz had Tulane beating Caleb Williams in a NY6. Sumerall has them on the cusp of a playoff birth. Both left for a G5 job. A better job. And Tulane let both leave without issue. Tulane understands who they are. Highly competitive but probably won't win a natty.

Are Tulane and Florida in the same conference and do they play each other every single year? Do they routinely compete for the same pool of players? Was Lane asking to finish out the season and THEN go to LSU... or to go to LSU but still be allowed to coach Ole Miss in the playoffs?
Your point fails because LSU was willing to allow Lane to coach for Ole Miss.
This wasn’t a rational decision. It was an emotional one.

Good lord if anyone thinks the LSU head coach would be allowed to coach Ole Miss in the playoffs?
It would have happened this year if Ole Miss had allowed it.

Here lies the problem. OM’s self grandiose delusion and unwillingness to rationally consider its options resulted in an emotional response by Carter. Call Lane and LSU’s bluff. Publicaly announce that you want him to coach through the last game. Force LSU to decide if it is truly willing to wait for Lane until after NIL. LSU would likely have blinked and told Lane they want him to move now. This probably pushes Lane to stay at OM.

Ole Miss isn’t that much of a step up from Tulane if we’re honest.
I wish there was a message board somewhere to discuss SEC sports...posts like the one above is why this place is basically the cartoon network. Chicken doesn't care because he's making money.

Do not even try to act like Tulane to Florida is in any way comparable to Ole Miss to LSU.
Well, in all fairness Tulane IS the best team in the state of Louisiana rn.

Because hypothetical future natties mean more to Lane than ones he could have now.

I’ve got news for you. The one he could have now is a hypothetical too.

Which is why I said “could”. Reading is hard. Future national titles take 12 more games than this one does.

It’s a rational decision in light of the emotions involved. OM administrators simply can’t allow for a situation where their own fans are hatefully and enthusiastically booing their lame duck coach in front of a national audience, while that lame duck coach is leading a team of players that either (a) know he won’t be coaching them anymore, or (b) he is actively recruiting to a rival.
That situation is completely untenable. Everyone is acting like Lane staying gives OM the best chance to win. That isn’t true. The distraction would be entirely too overwhelming to reasonably expect to compete at a high level. They have a better chance to win with coaches that are excited to be there.

So you’re still distinguishing between two hypotheticals with flawed logic and then casting aspersions at me about reading.
Ultimately, Lane chose the place where he thought he could build a better program, including hypothetical titles. Most people who aren’t butthurt would agree with him.

Can you name a P4 coach that left for another job and was allowed to still coach their team?

Show me where these statements diverge.

Keith Carter could do a lecture circuit on handling adults that are children. Ole Miss will make you a millionaire and give you everything you need to win. But if you put yourselves above the school he will spank your arse.

Did Sumrall threaten to gut the staff and roster? Plus, he knows they will get curb stomped 1st round if they make the playoffs.

LSU fans are largely a stupid species.

Another factor, Harris added, is that Florida and Tulane are not in the same conference, which gave the Kiffin situation "a different dynamic."
