I think the photo you are looking for is this one...
Back in the day I lived in NYC for a few years. Not long before I moved there I had lived on an apartment on Y.A. Tittle Ave. in Baton Rouge. Guess what I saw when I walked into the famous Modell's sports store to buy a football in midtown Manhattan? That iconic photo plastered against an entire side of one of the store's walls insides. New Yorkers love their Giants!

Archie stunned LSU with a 26-23 Ole Miss win in Jackson in 1969 (preventing an SEC title and a perfect 10-0 season), but in 1970 he broke his left arm and came back to Tiger Stadium playing wearing a cast.
LSU beat the Rebels 61-17, locking up an Orange Bowl appearance against 10-0-1 Nebraska. Tiger Stadium rained oranges from the stands as fans threw them in celebration. The photo is of Ronnie Estay, an All-American D-lineman for LSU, sacking him behind the goalline for a safety

Did he win that game?

No. That photo was taken as he was struggling through the last year of his career, when the 1964 New York Giants went 2-10-2.
It was taken on September 20, 1964, in Pittsburgh, as the Giants lost on the road 24-27, dropping to 0-2 on the season after their first 2 games on the road. A pro-Steelers website has a great article about that game here.
At that point, Tittle was about a month shy of his 38th birthday, and was playing in his 17th season of pro ball, all of them with the Colts, 49ers, or Giants. He was a 7-time Pro-Bowl selection, a 3-time All-Pro selection (including 1962 & 1963), and was actually awarded the MVP of the entire league (by the NEA, UPI, or AP) 4 times, in 1957, 1961, 1962, & 1963.
But the NFL can be cruel. His team wasn't as good, and he proved too old to carry them anymore.

By the second quarter the Giants had stormed to a 14-0 lead and were looking like the defending Eastern Division Champions. New York had the ball deep in their own territory when Quarterback Y.A. Tittle dropped back to pass. John Baker, Pittsburgh's 6-7, 280-pound defensive end, had a clean shot at Tittle and took advantage of it. Baker drilled the entire right side of Tittle's body as he was throwing and in the process knocked Tittle's helmet off, cracked his sternum, pulled his rib-cage muscles and caused a concussion.

Has to be the wrong year, because LSU wasn't founded until 1860. Or were we just ahead of our time?

Bruce Newell (10) scores Ole Miss' TD in 1967 Sun Bowl loss to UTEP.Newell was the Ole Miss QB the year before Archie.
This was a little over a year and a half after 'Texas Western' beat Kentucky in basketball in the famous/infamous 'all black team' win in '66. Now they beat the Ole Miss Rebels in football.

Is the story about him calling LSU and them sending an assistant coach to pick him up from Austin true?
Wasn't he supposed to have been staying with Bobby Layne?
Was it a Texas recruiting trip or was he already there for the Fall?
Always heard LSU hid him away from Texas until after signing day or the first day of classes.

The Gator looks badass, and so do the LSU tiger, and KY wildcat.
The Vol looks very gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
The Barner looks like a creep.
The puppy looks scared holding that ball, like someone is going to take it away.
The gump? LMAO
Awesome thread. Love the Spurs pict, and the Gator flop.

My co-worker's father was the one that broke his arm in the Southern Miss game. I made sure to tell her to thank her dad for that one.

Um, Archie broke his arm in 1970 in Ole Miss' game vs Houston.

now Southern did upset Ole Miss that year earlier in the season when Ole Miss was ranked #4 in one of the biggest upsets in SEC history.
Lets just say she got her story juxtaposed.
