With three undefeated teams, OSU, LSU and Clemson, one of the teams would have been left out. Going to 4 eliminated that problem. Your Welcome!

If you were looking at blind resumes, I'd agree.
But I don't see the human element allowing an undefeated defending national champion to be left out.

You have to look at it with the other two teams. There’s no way you leave LSU out with a heisman QB tearing through the SEC
And how can you leave OSU out?
All signs point to clemson, ONLY because of their schedule.

That would have been quite the pickle and would have been an amazing media firestorm no matter who was left out.
Damn shame.

Like I said, with blind resumes, no a doubt about it.
People were talking about Clemson's dogshit schedule last year. 30-3 and 44-16 in the CFP changed the conversation.

Yes, but there were 4 teams last year...
You can’t use hindsight like that. LSU and OSU would be in, clemson would be out.
This is why we have a 4 team playoff. So this shite doesn’t happen.

This is a message board and not a CFP committee discussion. I can use hindsight, foresight, and sidesight.

I wasn’t speaking about you specifically, but alright.

Then they played GT at home in 05 and lost again after Roman Reigns knocked their QB out.

quote:No. The AU/GT series was supposed to be 3 games - 03 at Auburn, 04 at Tech, 05 at the GA Dome. Tech asked to move the 04 game to 05 to debut the new addition to Grant Field. In doing so, the GA Dome could not accommodate a game in 04, so that 3rd game was dropped.quote:LOL, yup. Backed out of playing GTU after the 2003 beatdown from the nerds.

Also, Auburn was scheduled to play Bowling Green that year. However, Bowling Green's AD at the time had worked for the Oklahoma athletic department in the early 80s, and Oklahoma and BG worked out a deal to open the season in Norman. Oklahoma actually paid the buyout to Auburn to get Bowling Green out of the game. Because it happened so late, Auburn didn't have much of a choice in opponents, and had to schedule the Citadel.
I have actually seen articles that replace Citadel with Bowling Green, and by doing so, that is enough of a schedule boost to put Auburn in the top 2 of the BCS that year, knocking out Oklahoma.

With Cincy being in the Big East back then, TCU in the Mtn West, and Boise in the WAC, it would have been crazy to see 2 G5 schools in the CFP and then another (I guess) in a NY6 bowl.
