Well that's a nice opinion.
But LSU is easily on a level with your 'Tier 3' SEC schools, just on its research, nationally ranked programs, and student homors.

What I've never understood is how can all the Big 12 schools allow Freakin Texas a bigger share of the pie than anyone else??? A&M nutted up and told them to GFYS, why don't the others kick their entitled asses out?

Someone explain to me why this matters in an athletic association. Why do the schools around you have to be good?
Research money.
It's part of what made the Big 10 appealing to us. Big 10 has the CIC that brings in a large amount of money to member schools.
SEC symposium is similar, but not as lucrative. Adding better academic schools would raise its profile and, likely, it's payout.

Too lazy to go through the list but Landscape architecture #1 in the nation, Internal Auditing (Grad) probably the best in the nation and there are plenty more... cherry picking
On the R1 research aspect, only like 8 SEC schools are in that tier.

OU has been a big beneficiary of the Texas 10% rule (or whatever percentage it really is). Boren is a good President.
It takes a long time to gain an academic rep and a long time to lose it. OU has been on the way up which is good. they know they benefit to be seen as being associated with the West.

What's so strange is with comparing Cal(20), UCLA (23), UGA(61), and OU(108) in USNWR. There are fewer schools ranked between UGA and Cal&UCLA (41&38) than OU to UGA (47)

National perception is definitely a thing. Outside of Vandy, so many people see every SEC school as some backwoods idiot school.
I think other than Vandy, most people see them as all being acceptable public schools where you can get a great education. Just like all the acceptable public schools in other conferences where you can get a great education.

I've had several Okies insist to me OU is the top academic institution in the Big 12.
Of course it is. And nothing screams academic excellence like Stanford & Cal Berkeley than good ole Switzer, Bosworth, Charles Thompson, Joe Money Mixon & crew.
The tail is wagging the dog when Barry Switzer is employed as your HC for 16 years.
Having said that, the article really said "prefer PAC12" vs "We are too good for SEC".

The only kid I know who went OU was not an intelligent person, just saying.

Educate yourself via the expansive free highway of the world wide web... it's awesome.
Good lord people have no idea how the are classifying themselves as Joe Bag o'Donuts when they say that.
It's the same sob story the rest of the world uses on America, save a few countries. The B12 commish & conference partners sat on their collective asses for years & didn't want to build the brand. Worse yet, many turned down or voted against conference media & revenue opportunities that were pitched.
Finally Texas carved it's own path.
Look @ the original group of B12 members.. how in the world did that group turn into the mess they are today? Wasn't because of what the pawns want you to believe.. surely people can't fall for that mail room mentality.
Garbage leadership & some of the biggest clowns for AD's & Chancellors.
Texas, a partner for the most part, a handful of hypocrites & the hand out/Sect 8 forming the rest.

Texas wielded significant power within the Big12 conference, and by floating the threat of a potential move to the Pac12, gained even more influence with the commissioner. The other schools didn't like that.
Additionally, the LHN hurts the Big12 because it essentially prevents the conference from forming a Conference network with Texas included (Per the contract).
The schools that had the ability to leave the Big12 for greener pastures left when provided the opportunity.
Colorado
Nebraska
Texas A&M
Missouri
The remaining schools don't have the opportunity to leave. Simple as that.

What an idiot, to even have UGA and Mississippi State in the same sentence, much less that UGA is much better than OU.

Oh the horror. You and your colleagues must have had a good laugh at this over tea and crumpets.
