Congrats to GA on NC. I'm not a regular to SEC Rant but was curious if there was any update on OK & TX plans to join SEC and when that might be.

Hopefully when fans of Arkansas begin to achieve spontaneous flight.

I think they originally went into this move thinking they were going to get out easily and the rest of the Big 12 would just bow down to them. It has turned out that the rest of the Big 12 are pissed and not going to let them off easily. In order for them to leave before the GOR and their current TV contracts run out in 2025, it would cost each school at over $83M each along with some other costs, etc. I don't think either of them wants to pay that much nor do I think either of them can afford it. I don't expect to be playing either of them until the 2025 season

Appreciate the feedback. I just knew I hadn't seen anything lately and didn't know if anyone had any updates. Agree that sentiment was they would likely buy their way out and we might see them as early as next year. I assumed since we haven't heard anything from SEC offices concerning how they plan to structure league once the move takes place, that it must not be imminent.

They probably won't pay for it. SEC now has an exit fee which means the SEC / ESPN might front load the payment to make it happen sooner.

Texas could scrape it together and do it if they had to but OU can't. OU isn't poor but they aren't rich.

Honestly I don't think either school is in a big hurry to make it happen. Both are rebuilding and aren't ready to compete in the SEC. They are hoping they can get it together in the next couple of years. Texas has the best chance but I think OU is screwed. Lincoln is going to take away their California pipeline and OU is not winning the head to heads with A&M and Texas in Texas. They are not going to be able to have success getting traditional SEC territory recruits either. Oklahoma doesn't produce much talent as a state so they are dependent on national recruiting.

Also worth noting that Texas and Oklahoma decided to join the SEC at a time when everyone believed a playoff expansion to 8 or 12 teams was sure to happen.

Today, those talks have collapsed with conferences totally unable to agree on an expanded format, and the playoffs will likely stay at 4 teams for the forseeable future.

Will Texas and Oklahoma still want to join the SEC in a world where they have to make the Top 4 with an SEC schedule to get a playoff bid? Both will have a LOT fewer playoff appearances in the SEC than the Big 12 going forward without expansion. Do they decide to stay put as a result?

Seems like I read somewhere that this can't happen due to the way the contracts are written or some other legal reason. I don't think the new SEC exit fee has anything to do with it.

The funny part about this whole situation is that the Big 12 under tu's direction put in these hefty exit fees to keep the other Big 12 members from trying to leave like A&M did. It has jumped up and bit them in the arse now.

Dunno. But we should revoke the offer and replace them with Virginia and North Carolina.

$ is off no issue, each school in the SEC got almost 50 million in the pandemic year from revenue sharing, I don't think that includes home game ticket sales, ect.

Plus alums/ donors will chip in if need be.

I'm sure they will be in the SEC by the 2024 season.

The Big 12 is intent on making the 2 straylings stay until their time is up. Some think they might get to leave early if ESPN sweetens things up a bit, such as a favorable future TV deal.

Texas has the money to leave now but Oklahoma dont and it is believed the 2 will enter together and not separate.

They aren’t going to pay $80Mil+ just to get humiliated in the SEC. They will try to recruit under the SEC brand without actually playing in the SEC. I’m sure they’re making promises to players saying they will be in the SEC next year even though they know they’ll stay in the minor leagues until 2025.

He is no Kramer or Slive. Totally modern and all about the dollars instead of about the schools and long term strategic planning.

UVA and OU would have been much better but ACC is ESPN territory so that is not happening.
