Is he really worthy of being on the Mount Rushmore?? never won any title games, 0-4 vs his biggest rival. I recall tua, Joe burrow, and others who have similar stats to him but they have won More meaningful games. Even the great Aaron Murray has won More games. This is specifically about college football...

No, next question.
He's only remembered the way he is bc of his NFL career. Same way some people in the "best college QB you've seen live" thread listed tom Brady lol

He probably is overrated a bit due to his NFL career, but the guy was an SEC legend who had the unfortunate luck of showing up during prime Spurrier years. Probably should have won a Heisman as well, FWIW

Tennessee backed into the '97 SEC Championship Game due to Florida inexplicably being blown out by Georgia. The Bulldogs were a good team that year to be sure, but this was the same Florida team that beat a Top 5 Vols team by two touchdowns and also the same Florida team that went on to upset #1 Florida State in the last game of the season.
Tennessee was fortunate to be SEC champions in 1997 but got theirs in the Orange Bowl against co-national champion Nebraska. The Huskers slaughtered Manning and the Volunteers to the tune of 42-17 in Tom Osborne's last game as Nebraska's head coach.

He owned Alabama and no amount of Gump tears will ever change that

We had a better record and higher final rankings than LSU who also beat Florida

Ugh I was at that game. And since it was my first SEC Championship game, I didn't realize they didn't sell alcohol and was miserably sober the whole time.

That game was at Tiger Stadium though. That loss was more understandable.

Just in 1997:
Maxwell Award
SEC Player of the year 1997
2nd in Heisman
Unitas Award
O'Brien Award
First team All-American
MVP of SECC
#1 Draft pick
Graduated with:
SEC record for career wins (39)
SEC record for most completions
SEC record for most yards
UT record for yards in a season, TDs in one season, Career TD, Career yards, comp %, attempts, and completions
Most 300 yard games of any SEC QB
CFP HOF inductee
He was putting these numbers up before it was commonplace like today, and he played 7 less games than Aaron Murray. Bama was our biggest rival at the time. He changed the game in terms of the QB position with audibles and game prep.

There was a dude in this very forum who will argue with you saying greg mcelroy was a better college qb than peyton manning. His name was alahunter.. Lol.

He did go 3-1 against Bama but unfortunately this college career will always be overshadowed by his well publicized instances of sexual assault.

Peyton was a great college QB. Not in the top 3 like Burrow and Cam but still very good. Cool guy too. My son played against his nephew this year. And he took pictures with all of the kids on the team and then left. Good guy. But this would probably be true:
Burrow
Cam
Tebow
Peyton
Manziel
Tua
Burrow
Cam
Tebow
Peyton
Manziel
Tua

He was the #1 overall pick though. So its not like he sucked.

Draft position doesnt always define how good someone was as a college quarterback.
Tebow and Aaron Murray are examples of this.
Trevor Lawrence would likely be taken #1 despite Justin Fields and Joe Burrow having better seasons and Jalen Hurts being right there with him numbers wise.
