Amputate? Well there would be no more whining about holding by Alabama from every team that Alabama plays. Why is that?

Doesn't the rule book state that grabbing is holding?

As long as its inside the shoulder pads and stays in front of you it's not holding.

Maybe OL would actually have to learn proper technique rather than how to properly break existing rules.

Back in the day, offensive linemen weren't even allowed to use their hands in blocking. Bear Bryant was a traditionalist, and his teams started to suffer because he was a proponent of using smaller, more nimble linemen and blocking techniques that didn't use hands. Everyone else went with the big hogs in the trenches, and Bryant's little guys started getting whooped.
Adapting to the new rules allowed him to get competitive again.

If you grab, according to the rule book, it's holding. It's just not called. After all, you really can't hold without grabbing in some fashion.

LSU is the worst offender at holding. So why you so mad, tho?

And if a defender is not trying to get away, it is not holding. You titty baby.

It's a nationwide trend. People like to bitch about Bama never being called for it but if you watch any given game regardless of conference you'll see offensive linemen getting away with murder at least a few times a game.

This. They dont generally call holding in the sec. But our refs called holding against us 4-5 at clemson. Screwed by our own officials. I dont get it.

From the rule that was quoted: "The hand(s) and arm(s) shall not be used to grasp, pull or encircle in any way that illegally impedes or illegally obstructs an opponent."

The way I read that suggests it's ok to grab in a way that does not illegally impede or illegally obstruct.

You are one of the few that actually posts the rule...
The rest of it is the philosophy behind the rule..namely holding is a process; not a singular moment. What fans think is holding is not...just like they don't know what constitutes a block in the back.

The old saying "holding could be called on every play" is ignorant BS.

If we hold on every play then why did the Pac-12 officials only call holding twice on Alabama Monday night?

Three times, the last one was on a Wide Receiver. I was pretty shocked at that one.

I saw someone gouge an eye. The victim was penalized by refs. Get over it OP.

Hell, start calling each lineman holding on the same play and back them up 50 yards. That would cure the problem pretty quick.

Mad. So mad.

How do you explain the non SEC refs not calling it? I think we got called for holding once in the BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, OUR 3rd in 4 YEARS, and that was on a WR.

There's not plague of holding calls in the non SEC games . . HOW TO SPLAIN!??!!?!?
