Ohio St claims 9 national championships, 22% of their claims are bogus.

1942 - legit
1954 - legit
1957 - legit
1961 - bogus
1968 - legit
1970 - bogus
2002 - legit
2014 - legit
2024 - legit

So this is their 7th legit title.

Who are you to decide what’s bogus or not when you claim 1941 for Bama?

1941 is a bogus claim for Alabama. They should not claim it.

I keep track of all the SEC team claims and update it when things change. Valid titles are done by the era. You can read the method I use in it.

Contending for titles is a far cry from winning those titles. If we’re counting “contending for titles “ we can add many more to Alabama’s number, abs several other programs too. Notre Dame “contended for a title “ last night and vs Alabama not long ago. Washington “contended for a title “ last year. Hell by this criteria, TCU “contended for a title “ when Georgia pounded them a few years ago.

Which is why this entire discussion about being consistently good, not who is the greatest program of all time.

They aren't the greatest of all time because they haven't finished the deal as much as Alabama has. But they've been a Top 10ish program more consistently over the past 60 years than anyone else in the country. They've been good to elite almost every single season over the last 60 years, whereas every other program has gone through at least 1 sustained period of suckage. And therefore, most consistent. Not best overall.

According to my buddy who is a huge OSU fan, all that matters is this...

Michigan leads the series: 62–51–6 and has won 4 in a row

I can't take any OSU fan seriously who still says this after literally seeing a team lose to Michigan, then win 4 playoff games by double digits to claim the national title

has contended for a national championship in every decade

So easy to "contend" for a NC when

a) for the first SIXTY years you are looking at, the NC wasn't decided on the field but by pollsters with a huge Big 10 / USC / ND bias. As soon as the damn thing started being settled on the field the SEC has been dominant.

b) Your school plays in a total shite conference with shite schools at the bottom whose fan bases don't give a crap about football. They don't show up to games, don't support the football program and gift OSU and Michigan about 4-5 wins every year, games they can just show up for and its over by halftime.
