Let me be clear. I think DH is right in the since that players should be compensated to some degree. Any payment would have to be uniformed across the board. As in, scholarship players all get the same stipend. As far as selling a player's likeness goes, why should the school get all of the money? Maybe the players could profit but instead of all of the money going to the particular player, it can go to fund stipends for all players. That way JFF profits from his great play but so does the O-line who protects him. I think Desmond's point is that something can be done to help these kids if the NCCA really wanted to do it.

Why? Because he said what is true? The 3 game 2014 playoff is a half billion dollar deal plus. Gawd forbid JFF make money off his autograph? Fluker gets some rent money?

Maybe the conferences themselves should do a study to see whether they could afford to pay all of their athletes. The Big 10 wants that athletic advantage back? They'd have the best recruiting chances in the world with the money they could give out. It shouldn't be an NCAA-mandated thing.

Desmond--pardon the pun--was money in that last segment.
He made a cogent, convincing, and impassioned argument.
The arguments made by the others came across as empty and, "We can't do that because ... well ... just because!"

Exactly and I found it very hypocritical that the whole panel is making their livelihood on the backs of these same players who can't benefit financially while the 'iron is hot'. JFF could be injured today and his opportunity to benefit financially could be over.

I can't stand Finebaum, personally, and without BAMA (SEC) football, you'd have never heard of the idiot.

Because they're providing the training and paying all expenses for the player to play.

They are.

Tens of thousands of dollars in education, food, game rooms, training, medical, tutoring, nutritionists, promotion etc.. If they are going to get paid, then they can incur the costs of a gym, health insurance, buy their own meals, pay their own tutors, etc.

I don't know what the solution is, honestly. But Desmond is right I think. There is an unfairness that is hard to overlook.

How would you feel if your mom played tackle football? I actually thought that was a pretty cool story in the Huskers and dudes mom

It's not unfair. Like a poster said earlier, if you feel it's unfair, don't play college football. Paying ANY college athletes on top of the full ride they get would be a disaster that collegiate sports would never recover from. Seriously. It's not as simple as some of you think.

Is there really, though? Give me an example of a player who got absolutely screwed by not being paid money for his play.

So watching Gameday I can't help but ask how much longer is ESPN going to keep Corso on the show? He doesn't over any relevant analysis.

He just said USC will be fine because Kiffin has a beautiful wife and family?! WTF?

This is not as much of a problem as people think it is. These players come to the university to do the thing they love. They are provides everything they need to succeed including tutors and meals to get them in top physical and mental shape. Preparing them not only for a possible pro career, but a nice backup job as well. In my opinion, people whining about players getting paid is absurd.

Might be a flawed statement but I don't care. Just my opinionz

Yep. The CFL and Arena football would love to get better athletes I'm sure. If they want to go to the minors, they can. College baseball players don't bitch, they play college or go pro or to the minors and work their way up. I get weary of college football players and pay proponents doing so.

It's sad. I feel like there is a bet between two of Gameday's HR people to see how long they can keep ratings high with Corso still on.

I don't think it's simple at all. I don't know what the solution is. Chancellors allowing semi-pro teams on their campus isn't going to happen.

Hell I don't know. Agree to disagree. Go Kats, GoVols and Hotty Toddy today.

NCAA is fixing to implode and I think the break away new big boy football league will address some of this. The new league may not be liable to the title 9 stuff. I am not an attorney but I slept at a............well you guys know. but you can't address paying football players in the current format without dealing with title 9. You might be able to let the player do auto graph dealings and such if it is under the guidelines of the Universities and held in an escrow account until the player is no longer on scholarship

Probably until he's ready to leave. I'm sure it's a respect issue.
Corso isn't stupid, nor are his "people"/agents/friends. Undoubtedly they'll advise him, and he'll know when it's time to exit with dignity.
I actually think he's doing much better this year than he did last--and exponentially better than the year before. Speech is tons improved (clearly he's had much therapy).
