Julian Horton's if it is JLS then thank you god tweet and several others have commented positively also.
Good lord, I bet he likes John L because after he DIDN'T scoop and score against Ohio St he probably got a high 5 from him.

That's what I'm thinking. What happens if he's 9-1 or 9-2 late in the year and he's trying to recruit some kid to come to Arkansas but can't tell the kid what his status will be next year? How is he going to sell an 18 year old to commit to a program that has an "interim" head coach? If he has that record, wouldn't it just make sense to promote him full-time? And then all these Arkansas fans who are admitting that he's not a great coach but it's ok because this is only on an "interim" basis will have to justify why their school just promoted someone who has proven to be a mediocre coach. Someone who was acceptable only because he was an "interim" solution and who did well with someone else's players and staff suddenly becomes a good, legitimate option?
That is how it works with all coaches who are about to get fired. The new coach will come in and try to salvage a decent class late. Bobby's first class that consisted of Tyler Wilson, Joe Adams, Jarius Wright, Greg Childs, Chris Gragg, etc turned out pretty good, and he only had a few months to salvage it. Recruiting for this year will take some hit but not huge. It all depends on the new coach.

they are prob just pumped they got a coach they are familiar with instead of some new guy

I bet they don't allow fans at the PC, if there is one. Anyone outside of the athletic department hates this move.

Exactly what scares me about this interim. He doesn't leave his alma mater for one season. If he does well this year, he gets a big contract.
Maybe Long promised to find an administrative position for him if his one year tenure is successful.

Everyone laughed when Mizzou hired Frank Haith. Big 12 tournament champs and coach of the year...

I think the PR problem lies in the fact that fans woulda been cool with a traditional "promote a no-name assistant to interim" just to bridge the gap between now and the real coaching search/hire. Everyone outside the athletic dept looks at this hire like .."WTF?!"
I'm well aware that Arkansas would prefer a bigger name/better resume than JLS, but there's going to be a big problem when he goes 10-2 or better and his entire team/staff want him to keep the job and they go outside and try to hire a new coach. There's going to be mutiny within the football program when that happens, and it might very well force Long's hand and make him keep JLS.
The first sign of this is all the Arkansas' players being happy with the hire. It has begun.
