If we are going the interim route, this is actually not too bad of a hire. Paul will be free to run the offense, I am sure, and John L. will just be an overseer. If he wants to do any actual coaching, maybe he can help with special teams or something.

No idea why people are upset...we wanted interim, we're getting it. This is better than expecting one of the other coaches to pull double duty, especially considering none have ever been head coaches.

The kids love him, he knows the goals/offense/defense/etc. As long as he lets everyone call their own plays, I'm good with it.

I actually think you're right. It makes more sense to bring in someone who has worked with the coaches (if you limit yourself like Long did to keep the current staff) and then work on making the right hire going forward.

You give up a recruiting year, in essence, but the right hire can get it back in the road.

IF Long couldn't knock it out of the park, then this makes sense.

Before this was announced, every Arkansas fan was throwing out ridiculous names (Gruden, Carroll, Sarkasian, etc.) about who was rumored to be coming. Then once it was announced, they change their tune and say they wanted an interim guy all along? Puh-lease.

I would prefer a Name HC now, but the pool is small due to timing.

I didn't want interim. I felt they should have paid upwards of $5MM for a worthy coach, whoever that may have been. I'll never believe that a decent coach would have scoffed at our job offer if we offered that kind of money.

Say what you will about continuity for the 2012 season. I was worried about 2013 and 2014's recruiting classes.

They are officially frickED.

Weber State is his alma mater and he left after only being the HC there for 3.5 months.

This should help ARKY recruiting

Wow.

Let the record show: John L was a college head coach from 1989-2006. He was then out of work 2 years until Petrino threw him a bone.

Arkansas sure loves their former Louisville head coaches. At the rate they're going, I bet Arkansas is going to hire Charlie Strong to be their full-time head coach next year.

Arkansas wasn't going to come out of its situation unscathed. It hired an interim head coach with an underwhelming resume. This was expected. Not sure why the reaction is so negative.
