And if you are interested in knowing how many NC schools really have(ordered by schools that claim the least % of bullshite titles):
1. LSU - 4 claims, 0 are bogus, 0% bogus claims.

3. Auburn - 2 claims, 0 are bogus. 0% bogus claims despite the push by some ignorant Auburn fans to change it.
4. Alabama - 18 claims, 1941 is bogus. 6% bogus claims.
5. Georgia: 4 claims, 1942 is bogus. 25% bogus claims.
6. Texas A&M: 4 claims, 1927 and Jimbos 20XX are bogus, 50% bogus claim

College football researchers association has them down as champs.

In that ‘77 Bama loss at Nebraska, QB Jeff Rutledge threw 5 interceptions and we lost by a touchdown; weird thing is, those were the only 5 interceptions he threw all year. He picked a bad time to throw ‘em all…

Fascinating seeing the video production of the 1970s

My take…between ND, Bama, Ark, and Texas:
ND has the worst loss (road), but best win (neutral). ND had 3 top 10 wins.
Bama has second worst loss (not that losing to a 9-3 squad on the road is bad) and 2 top 10 wins, including at then #1 USC on the road.
Arkansas only lost to Texas (13-9) at home, but also only has 1 top 10 win.
Texas only loss was to ND in blowout fashion, but they notched two top 10 wins, neutral site and on the road.
I feel like the two best resumes belong to ND and Texas. All four teams received a nod from a “major selector” according to the record books, but ND is the only school to claim it. Logically, I would have to defer to the Irish if the teams I think best actually played, and it was a four TD margin.

Yes, but I don’t think the school/program claim it. All four schools were awarded a title by at least one “major selector”. ETA - but the biggest would still be AP and UPI, and those went to ND.

Alabama - finished 2 in both polls. Crushed Ohio State 35-6 in the Sugar. Only loss was to 9-3 Nebraska in Lincoln.

We should totally claim it. Hell, Alabama claims championships in years before the game of football was invented.
Are you telling me there is a championship that Alabama has not claimed yet?

The associated press is located in NYC where it is home to a large number of Notre Dame alumni.

We were legitimately awarded the '64 championship by the FWAA and Helms. Helms is whatever, but the FWAA was a respected source at the time, and if I'm not mistaken, I think their poll still counts toward selecting All-American teams. The 1977 championship was awarded by FACT, which was also an accepted selector at the time, but most Hog fans don't claim that one even though we do technically have a legitimate claim. Especially considering how close the top five teams were in that year.
I don't blame Alabama for claiming 1964 since they have every right to, but neither of us can stop the other from claiming it. It's a championship awarded not only before a sanctioned championship game, but before a bowl at all was even played. So I don't know why anyone even cares enough to argue about it in 2024.

I'm not sure if it is true but both Randy McEachern and Earl Campbell played injured against Notre Dame. They seemed more fresh when Arkansas played them in the fifth game of the season.
Randy McEachern was the fourth string QB until he became a starter against Oklahoma.
