In yet another category, once again, UGA proves to clearly be the 2nd best sec program of all time.
Notice I said "sec program" so obviously the big12 couch surfers don't count.

My take away is that just like figure skating there is a bias in rating performances....
If you consistently get the nod STARTING in the top 25 it certainly is easier to stay there. If you consistently get disrespected by not getting a favorable starting point it is much more difficult climbing the ladder to the top. I realize this concept will be hard to comprehend for most blue blood SEC football fans, but it is what it is....

What I take from this is the SEC was just kind of average before the year 2000. Except for Alabama not much history before then.
And shite like this is why Oklahoma and Texas were a mistake.
Damn you SEC for your love of money.

Let’s examine your hypothesis.
In the past 50 years Alabama finished ranked every season they had 9 or more wins regardless of their preseason rank. They finished with 8 wins three times. They lost their bowl game none of those years. They finished ranked twice. Bear Bryant went 8-4 in 1982, with a bowl win, and finished unranked despite being ranked #3 in the preseason.
In the past 50 years Missouri finished ranked every season they had 9 or more wins regardless of their preseason ranking. They finished with 8 wins 9 times. They finished unranked every season they had 8 wins and lost their bowl game. When they won their bowl game (three seasons) they finished ranked two times, The exact same as Alabama.
Missouri finished ranked after going 7-5 and losing their bowl game in 1997. Alabama never finished ranked during that period when they had 7 or less wins. Maybe Missouri is the one getting preferential treatment?
Just based on actual results it seems you are wrong.
The secret to finishing ranked is to win more games. The secret to starting the season ranked is to win more games.

LSU started the preseason last season ranked 13th. They finished with 9 wins and a top 10 SOS. They finished unranked.
It appears your hypothesis is wrong.
They deck isn’t stacked against Missouri. Missouri just hasn’t been very good very often. When you are, you finished ranked.

The way this board talks about Texas you’d think they’ve been on this list 6 or 7 times total

I think you should go ahead and throw in 2007.

The way Texas fans talk you would think Texas had finished ranked in the top 5 every season.
It averages out.

Ah yes. The age old “3 posters dictate how an entire fanbase is” strategy. Smart
Also, they have finished in the top 5 every season since joining the sec ;)

For Auburn to basically take the last half decade off and still be ranked 7th (and one spot away from being 5th) is impressive.

You say the last half decade. I don't think it's getting turned around any time soon.

Gus finished ranked 3 of his last 5 seasons. One of those was a top 10 finish. You fired him after the 2020 covid anomaly season.
Auburn finished ranked 12 of the last 25 seasons (48%).. Gus finished ranked 5 of 8 his seasons (63%).
Auburn deserves what they are getting. I am astonished that Auburn alum aren’t showing up with pitchforks, or A-10s, to clean out Auburns fricked up athletic department.
Until you get rid of Cohen it won’t get better. He has left wreckage at every stop.

That must suck balls.
I lucked out, was at OU for the reign of The King aka Barry Switzer.

Let's not brush aside the 1999 SEC championship season...that was the only bright spot during my time on campus. But then again, it's not like we had 4 losing seasons in a row or anything even during that dark period.

Yea Nebraska really was amazing for a long time.

Franchione also had one season that Bama would have went to the SEC title game but for probation. And Shula had the 2005 season, the lone bright spot of his tenure. Bama's worst decade would be pretty solid for most programs.

Several ponts....
Alabama is considered an "outlier" in any data discussion. That program has been the best in college football history in my opinion.
Those of us Mizzou fans have an expression we unfortunately have to use more often than we would like. "We got Mizzou-ed". This also applies to where we usually get picked or ranked, specifically pre-season. Take a look at last years SEC predictions, or this years! I also understand every team get's the shaft from time to time.
We finished last year with the exact same SEC record as Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Texas A&M.
Overall record:
Texas 13–3
Georgia 11–3
Tennessee 10–3
Missouri 10–3
Ole Miss 10–3
Alabama 9–4
LSU 9–4
South Carolina 9–4
Texas A&M 8–5
Florida 8–5
Arkansas 7–6
Vanderbilt 7–6
Oklahoma 6–7
Auburn 5–7
Kentucky 4–8
Mississippi State 2–10
Despite these facts we are picked to finish 12th this year????
In any event the blue blood programs get the nod the majority of the time. Another example is Texas. They have finally started performing recently, but were given favorable odds for years. Same is true of Nebraska.
Bottom line for us...it's a good thing, because it is the best chalk board material out there.
