In terms of brazen/stupid actions by a coach. I know the Death Penalty was dished out twice in hoops, to Kentucky in the ‘50’s for gambling and to Southwestern Louisiana in the 70’s for a slew of actions, including academic fraud.

Teams that self-imposed a death penalty were Long Island U for gambling, Tulane in the ‘80’s for paying players, and U of San Francisco in the 80’s for several violations.

Below that, we have Kentucky in the 80’s, and probably the recent Louisville scandal.

Some of these involved rogue head coaches, and some had coaches that were probably clueless or powerless, like the point-shaving scandals.

What Wade did is about as dumb as you can get. It’s up there with Pitino, Tates Locke, and others that simply didn’t give a shite.

80s Kentucky pales in comparison tbh.

Cajuns are well documented to be dishonest and untrustworthy.

An excellent synopsis.
For the conference's sake, I hope they don't destroy the program. Even though it's an embarrassing situation for ALL the SEC teams, LSU is an old, and recognized program that has provided great traditional episodes for the conference, and their quirky fan base's personality has added to the uniqueness of the conference.
Punish the guilty, but don't kill the institution.

if you get bored, read up on those San Fran infractions. They did not care.

It's definitely leaps and bounds worse than some of my younger teammates getting books from the bookstore.

Solid take. Then again, watching them melt after getting hammered would be a lot fun. It's a win-win situation imo.

there have been some egregious violations...but this one seems bigger than just basketball.

The entire athletics program seems to have been running amok... Tennis, Football, charges of rape, free-bird if you feel like playing in today's game or not, opt out, "injury," fake covid epidemic, quit, start, RTFU, STTDB, coed-coach-grass chewing, team voting, head kicking, bar fighting, harassment, naked pictures, weird behavior(go look at video of Coach O coming on the field at Alabama last year... jogging, detouring through the lines of the Alabama band, majorettes, and cheerleaders...WTF? Can you imagine Coach Sabin or Bryant doing that?)... the lack of discipline and control throughout the program has been a question mark for a long time.

Alleva was partly responsible, one of the most incompetent, egoist, fools to ever run a 500-million-dollar company. This situation with LSU sadly may be a lot worse than just basketball.

SW seems intent on cleaning house and trying to get a distorted bent program back on the rails. It doesn't help that half the LSU fan base thinks cheating stealing lying dissembling is ok if you don't get caught. That widely held attitude is one reason we all loved Gov. Edwards and his honest 10 percent, and live boy or dead girl statement in this state.

Depends on the subject. I trust them over anyone in the country when they talk about how to do Crawfish or gumbo. Especially if they sound like Ed O/Farmer Fran.

I think it would be tough to find scandal with a dumber person at the center of it. Some may call it sloppy or arrogant. But, it was just fricking plain stupid.

I think the NCAA is done handing out the death penalty. LSU hoops won’t get it, but they’ll get hammered. Combine that with a vastly improved SEC, and the road to recovery will be VERY tough.

College hoops is one of the dirtiest sports around. Wade cheated, got caught, and disrupted the investigation. If you do all 3 of those, you are absolutely fricked.

I can’t think of a coach who gave a bigger finger to the NCAA. Tarkanian was a dick, so was Dale Brown, but they didn’t have this sort of paper trail.

jack nola, I agree with everything u wrote, but come on with the cheating shite.

LSU fans think that’s how u win because we learned that from Bama. I can lay out very specific examples on kids I personally know from Mobile if you would like.

He caught caught writing ducking checks, like that idiot alum you had that Yahoo sports did the whole article on about 6 years ago or so.
Btw what ever happened to that idiot.

Why? I bet 99% of them can't cook for shite.

Hell, just because 1 guy makes awesome BBQ in a state doesn't mean everyone does. Half the time just hearing peoples methods alone makes me cringe.

I like LSU, I have friends and distant relatives in the BR area; so this hurts me more than the casual poster.

What a lot are missing is the school administration still in place has much of the responsibility. They either knew and turned a deaf-ear not wanting to know what was going on or are so incompetent they were clueless about what was happening. As with Truman, the president of LSU has the responsibility of the program on his shoulders—“the buck stops here”, as Truman said. The administration needs firing just as much as Wade.

I’m not optimistic about what is going to happen. NCAA having turned it over to a new agency to adjudicate does not bode well for LSU. Unlike, NCAA, the new agency’s decisions are final, no appeal permitted. My fear is they are going to make an example of LSU that says the NCAA is back and in business. I figure LSU will get hammered in light of the fact that this continued up through at least 2020 even though it was known earlier what was going on (The Scheme” on HBO). Lack of Institutional Control charge should be a clue things aren’t going to go well since it applied to multiple athletic programs and is an indictment of the LSU administration itself.

I just don’t get the continued denial of some of the LSU posters on here. Either they know but are still are in denial hoping the NCAA will not see the worst or they think they will get away with what has gone on in the football and basketball program, which isn’t going to happen. They are the true melts when the decision comes down.
