Disagree and this isnt baseball.
You can not equally weigh them as teams improve throughout the season and college football doesnt have a pre-season to test different schemes, position groupings, etc. We theoretically COULD if we all agreed the 1st 3 OOC games are tuneups and the last counts or something like that but it would never happen because the networks wouldnt allow it as viewership would fade.

I agree, but I think they are average to above average and good possibly, just not nearly as "good" as their ranking.
We dont have a lot of ways to know if they are "good" since they get special treatment and dont have to join a conference and can pick and choose their opponents

I mean they play no one and their playoff game will be likely at home (since they play no one the rest of the season while everyone else has to play in a conference and possibly a conference title game) so they will get a home game to win a first round game.
So....no, not willing to say they are "good" unless they blow out their 1st round opponent or win the second round game.

As long as humans are the committee mega brands going to get the nod.

ND whipped the SEC champion in the playoff last season I think.

good analysis, Pitt and GT example perfectly solidify why ND being ranked where they are is BS. Those 2 teams have to actually play conference opponents and cant sneak in playing Navy and other bs service academies.

What the absolute hell is wrong with people defending ND of all teams
If UConn had the same SOS and SOR they wouldn't even be ranked

This
ND has lost 2/3 of games with good teams, and barely won the other looking bad in all three.
The takeaway is that ND only looks good against really bad teams.
If the measure is how good you are against good teams, then ND isn't good, and repeating the "they lost by 3 against..." doesn't tell the story

Their fan base is huge because of NBC. In the long long ago times, you could watch Notre Dame on NBC. Made them easy to follow.

That is why I would question Marcus Freeman’s intelligence if he voluntarily left ND.
Number one.. he is an overrated coach that gets a ton of praise for beating a ton of mediocre teams and screwing the pooch in higher profile games. ND’s resources provides him a roster that glosses over it. Hell… he struggled with Boston College last weekend. Boston friken College.
Number two he will always get the benefit of the doubt just as ND always has. Most other teams doesn’t get near that benefit of a doubt that inflates their ranking.
The playoff committee was supposed to have alleviated this. So far not so good.

By your logic, Alabama don’t deserve a break because they lost to FSU, who has four losses already. ND won by 15 on the road at BC. Yeah they suck but ND didn’t lose

Schedule ND, win, guaranteed cfp spot, lol it's a farce and everybody knows it. Being in a conference matters. Generally, each team knows each other well, and despite one team being better, doesn't always mean the better team wins.
It's a grind for a reason and ND doesn't face the same pressures.

Well the Boston College comparison was calling into question of Freeman’s abilities. Not the ranking.
The argue of their ranking is that they have played nobody, have beaten nobody currently in the playoff rankings. They have lost to #18 Miami who just lost to SMU. And their only ranked win is USC, whose biggest win is #21 Michigan.
The popular thought is that the schedule and quality wins vs. losses was going to weigh heavily on the rankings. Well… out goes that fantasy.

Freeman isn’t great but There’s a lot of SEC and Big ten schools who would hire him. As far as the rankings, it’s just week one of actual rankings. I think they will come to a consensus on what practicality is involved in judging wins and losses.

Agreed. There are. But it would be a two party mistake. Freeman for leaving ND with their resources to beat up on Purdue and Boston College on their way to the playoff.
And the SEC or Big 10 for hiring Brian Kelly 2.0.

They wont win out. Despite their weak schedule, they do face some teams that will give them trouble (1-7 Boston College did last weekend).

I love how people seem to conveniently leave out the kickoff TD return called back for a phantom holding call.
