A home & home vs ND would be awesome. If you've never been to South Bend, it's worth a trip up. One of the best 5 overall college football Saturday experiences, IMO.

Would love the chance to even our record up against them by scheduling them as a recurring game like we did with penn st in the 80's

Guess they don't remember the Miracle at South Bend.

They used to have a small thing going with LSU (played like every 3 years for 30 years...which is a LOT considering how they are generally tough to schedule--heck, they even just dropped long-time rival Michigan from their schedule, ending decades of tradition). Otherwise, other than maybe Tennessee, they usually won't play SEC teams (well, other than in bowl games, but they can't control who they draw in those).

We make the most geographic sense for them in terms of travel. We're ~2hrs closer to South Bend than we are Mizzou. LSU vs. ND might've been a Catholic thing -- would be interesting to know.

Yeah, they were already trying to gauge Georgia's interest. they really want the exposure in the state for recruiting purposes.

They're playing GT at SB '15 & at GT in ?, just lip service by ND, if they can play GT, UNC, CU & FSU/Miami they get the benefits without playing a SEC team...

Notre Dame used to cherry pick Louisiana's best and are very interesting in tapping those resources again.

True but we cherry pick their area too. Well, I don't know if Louisiana does but TN goes in-state, South, and then cherry picks the Midwest and East Coast due to location. I'd say back then ND had a stronger pitch for La. players than it does now. They could've sold them on faith and a strong program but LSU offers that now and in a better conference. Even if LSU played them regularly again I can't see ND picking off anymore than it already does.

If he really wanted to play the SEC why would they jump in bed with the ACC?

Because Notre Dame has good academics. Like Duke, UVA, UNC, Wake Forest, Boston College and Georgia Tech.

The SEC has one school with great academics.

I'd love for UK to have a home and home with ND but I don't think they'd be interested in us. They want to play in the Deep South for recruiting purposes.

It actually spawned from the 1969 season. LSU had maybe its best team under Cholly Mac and ND basically stole a Cotton Bowl bid from the Tigers.

Scheduled a home/home in early 70's ( ND won first game 3-0 but Tigers basically ruined Joe THeismans Heisman chances shutting him down, Tigers destroyed ND 28-8 in TS behind Bert Jones)

After that both schools realized they had some things in common, deep catholic roots being one and played 6 more regular season games in the 80's and 90's. 2 bowl matchups on top of those eight. It's a good series, would like to see a couple games every ten yrs or so

Man, this has great possibilities. Only the big 4 need apply though. ND vs Bama, LSU, AU and UGA in rotation would be stellar. Though, Florida probably wont suck by 2020.

If things repeat next year we'll get another shot at those guys but I dislike repeat games believe it or not. I was happy to play LSU in 2011 because I knew we'd win the repeat but I thought it was unfair to have to play us again. Get ready SEC because its going to happen a lot now.

That statement right there is bullshite. Southeastern Conference universities produce tremendous doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers, veterinarians and other hard science graduates. Guarant damn Tee you there are more Astronauts from Auburn University than ever went to Notre fricking Dame.

Funny that they suddenly want to play SEC schools. They've made zero attempt to do so in the last 20 years.
