Y'all said that about Tyler Harris and Kareem Canty last year. Where they now?

No one said that. There was some hopes that Canty could develop into a role player in the league at some point, but that wasn't a loud thought.

As someone who's involved with AAU, I get to watch a lot of talent. I'm just saying, while heron and Wiley are good, they are not NBA guys. I think Purifoy is probably the best of the three
I haven't seen enough of Wiley to form an opinion, but I think Heron has a brighter NBA future than Purifoy. He is a more polished and efficient player. To your point, none of them are 1 and done or lottery type players though. Probably late 1st or second rounders at best.

The problem is not talent in the SEC. The problem is having to develop that talent into functional basketball skill. UK and other blue bloods can get the talented guys that know how to really play. The rest of the SEC (save UF during Donavan era) have had to take the guy that is freakishly talented but needs to be polished and coached up for 2 years to become a guy that can play with 9 other guys on the court...it has not been very successful the last decade. I will speak for AU since I follow them but it is obvious that the talent level and natural basketball skill of the players that Pearl is bringing in is vastly superior to anything we have had since the late 80s. My opinion on Heron is that he will probably be an NBA player due to the fact he is 6'5 and a very skilled lefty although he isn't a freak athlete. Purifoy has lottery potential but I could just as easily see him not getting any better than he is. Wiley is an old school big man and I am not sure there is a place in the NBA right now for that type of player unless he develops and 18 foot jump shot. No way to tell on big men right now.

That is a pretty good assessment. Very similar to the elite guys Pearl signed at Tennessee in that they were more athletes than polished NBA ready guys (outside Tobias Harris who was bought and paid for but as NBA ready as it gets from a skill standpoint). Not many guys like Harris are going to spurn the UK, Syracuses, etc. of the world for football schools in the SEC.

Pearl did a great job winning with those freak athletes at Tennessee but none of them ever developed basketball skills enough to get drafted.

Your right my mistake, I meant to say Heron is the best out of those guys not Purifoy.

I think Antonio Blakeney has the talent to have a long career in the NBA. The kid can score with the best of them and is freaky athletic.

Blakeney has explosive step and hop to the rim, creates easy looks and range for himself, still has a ways to go in many aspects of his game, and needs to develop more range and launch spots to NBA consistency in shooting pct..

But, it's clear why Pitino so coveted him so much.

Also, LSU's Reath and Sampson have All-SEC possibilities in the near future..coming along quickly.

More importantly, the NBA has become a shooters league. If you have any kind of size at your position and can shoot then you could get a shot. There used to always be room in the NBA for freaky athletic types that could come in and play lock down defense while developing a offensive identity the first few seasons in the league (type of players SEC routinely puts out). Now there may be one roster spot available for a guy like that in today's NBA.

Kingsley will have a 10 year career as a banger \ rebounder

I can see Macon having a good NBA career. He can defend 1 and 2 and can get to the rim

Anton beards game is one that would translate extremely well to the NBA. Tank point guard that can body smaller point guards, finishes well at the rim, is a Lefty and is money if left open from three. I can see him being a second rounder next year and sticking he's too good a spot up shooter

State has at least 3 future NBA players on it's roster. They are just really young. Q Weatherspoon, Mario Kegler, and Lamar Peters. Also possibilities with Aric Holman and Schnider Herard if they fully develop.

I don't think all 5 of those guys make it. If that was the case, yall would be a lot better.

I don't know about that. Georgia has that Maten (sp?) guy. Georgia has the men to be a pretty good team from what I've seen.

I think Auburn has three guys on the team right now that have a good shot at playing in the NBA. Danjel Purifoy, Mustapha Heron, and Austin Wiley.

Yup. Heron looks really good and as he gains confidence, he might become the best player on that team. He has such a smooth stroke. Purifoy is hella athletic but he's a bit eratic, but that will smooth out over the course of the season. Wiley playing with just a few days practice is pretty impressive.

Good lord.. 17 and 19 year old true freshmen with 13 games between them, and you're already making this observation? I'd say you're terrible at observations and just a tad premature with them at that.

What is Bama's excuse then since they don't pay players in football?
You would think all the top players would be beating down door to go there just because they are "Bama" like they claim football players do.

But don't worry. If Auburn becomes good enough, you can bet Bama will have start handing out new cars to the basketball recruits.
