It sucks, Saban was our coach. He left too early. We had to deal with Elmer Fudd and his sorry offensive. LSU turned the corner and became what we should have been. To watch him do what he is doing right now makes me ask myself what could have been. Buck Bama. You lucky Rich Rodridguez turned you down.

Compared to Louisiana brother we are bastions of superior thought and integrity. We may frick our sisters and talk a little slow but thank God above we aren't from Louisiana.

Funny this thread is up today. I had this exact conversation with one of my employees a few days ago. He then had the same conversation with a larger group of my Louisiana employees and this afternoon while we were driving from Baton Rouge to New Orleans we discussed it again.
Here's the consensus of about 30 casual to heavy LSU fans. No other fanbase is represented in this response to the OP.
Most say they hate Alabama but they watch Bama games almost as much as LSU.
Disposition towards Alabama's constant presence as the elite sovereign of college football is less venomous than expected. Many are used to Alabama's winning ways, have become acclimated to it, and expect it to continue.
Yes they are jealous but, for the most part, not insanely so.
Allegiance to the SEC was pretty solid. A majority of fans who are sophisticated enough to understand the relative strength of the SEC compared to other conferences were glad to be conference mates with Alabama.
Most fans do have Alabama fatigue. But there is ample respect for what Alabama has accomplished and the majority are pulling for Alabama to win the Playoffs and the National Championship.
**Side note: Many expressed having Alabama in the SEC is good for LSU and playing them annually was the high point of the season.

I hate it, but respect the accomplishments and feel that Saban's run will exceed the success of the Bear. The Bear teams were not as dominant and Saban's in the last few years.

First of all, there is way too little focus on Auburn. Let us not forget, those hose hounds broke the SEC natty streak by losing to FSU of all teams. Not only that, they dominated the 1st half and then Gus decided to let Dabo take over and Auburn proceeded to Clemson the title away.
Second, UF hired a coward named Meyer. It looked like there would be balance in the force between Bama and UF. But Meyer was banging interns and getting scared of Saban and he bailed. That sent the East on a downward spiral.
I appreciate watching excellence which is what Saban delivers. As I said before, no one should be jealous of Bama. We should all just catch up. Everyone saw this show before with Spurrier. But when Spurrier was on top, the SEC did a much better job of catching up. These days, too many schools are taking huge risks with unknown coaches that haven't proven anything, hoping to catch lightening in a bottle. That's just not a prudent strategy.

Fish for compliments much? GFY and your sister while you're at it.
And yes, I'm jealous. Who wouldn't be? But still...gfy.
"O'Doyle, I've got a feeling one day you're whole family's goin' down."

Hilarious!! I now know why Mississippi is ranked 50 in education. Mississippi is stuck in the middle of two states arguing about who is the least stupid.

I am just glad that it is fixing to end as Saban's 10-year deal with the devil is about to expire. There will be hell to pay in Tuscaloosa and the traffic on the sidewalks of Alabama will thin considerably.

Saban is a bitch. Other than that, don't think about them much

Honest feeling- I dislike that it isn't my team doing it
Also, I agree with some opinions I heard on the radio the other day, that it's not beneficial to the SEC as a whole. The conference was at it's best a few years ago, when you didn't have 1 dominant team, you had 4 or 5 very, very strong teams. LSU, Alabama and Florida were able to win titles, Auburn made a couple of runs, Georgia pushed hard a few times but didn't break through, etc. Hell, even South Carolina was becoming a power, and Tennessee wasn't yet come to grips that they'd lost their mojo.
The perception then was that the best football was being played in the SEC, and talent flowed in, players and coaches.
Now, the perception is the best football is played at Alabama, and they have a stranglehold on the conference. Your best chance to break through is to be OUTSIDE the conference (Clemson, Florida St, Ohio St), build a little momentum, and hope to spring the upset in the playoffs.
My concern is that when Alabama comes back down to earth, the rest of the conference will be a step behind, and we'll fade off somewhat.

If there's a dynasty I'm glad they are from the SEC. Besides that don't really care. Don't play enough games to think about it. The West seems like an entire other conference. Who wouldn't want their team to be a powerhouse?

quote:Spurrier got there honest. There is a difference in catching someone winning by outcoaching and catching someone winning from having a free pass to buy players.

Its alot easier to find a coach that can win on coaching. Until the rest of the conference can cheat at will (where OM would be and we see what Freeze did to Saban with 2 years of cheating) or someone makes Saban follow the same rules then the rest of the sec will continue to drop off.
The good thing is it will only take a year or 2 more for the sec office to see this is only benefiting Bama short term and hurting the conference long term.
