Those who think Alabama is in good shape for an NCAA tournament berth with an 18-8 overall record and a 10-2 SEC mark will be sorely disappointed by the latest mock bracket from CBS Sports' Jerry Palm.

Palm does not have Alabama making the field in his latest bracket, compiled on Feb. 15, and doesn't even include the Tide in the first four teams left out. He has five SEC teams making the dance -- Florida, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia, with the Gators seeded highest as a No. 4 seed.

The killer for Alabama is its RPI, which is 77th according to RealTimeRPI.com. The other five teams expected to make the tournament are all in the top 40.

Bama is a bubble team for sure due to their RPI and the utter shitpile that is the SEC West. If they finish fairly strong, they will get in. A couple of bad losses to close out the season and they will host an NIT game.

Not surprising, he's been saying this all year. I would assume that he still thinks Ole Miss is a better team since there a few spots higher RPI wise.

Who did they lose to?

10-2 SEC mark

is not good this year as the SEC is a very weak conference.

Alabama will not get in, unless they win the Tournament.....and they will not do that....

I think they have to win 1-2 games in the SEC tourney

What killed them is how god awful they were out of conference

I haven't been paying any attention to Tennessee but I'm surprised they are a lock... thought they had been playing poorly

Tennessee- RPI 33, SOS 2

Vs. RPI top 25 3-5
Vs. Rpi top 50 5-6
Vs. RPI top 100 10-9

Alabama- RPI 77, SOS 150

VS. RPI top 25 1-2
Vs RPI top 50 2-2
Vs. RPI top 100 3-4

See the difference yet. Tennessee is no lock but they are in better shape than Alabama.

Lunardi's usually right on so him having us in is reassuring. If we go 13-3 in conference I think we'll be fine.

Tennessee has to really shite the bed to not get in because they played a tough OOC schedule and picked up a couple big wins. They certainly don't look like an NCAA team this year but its not an eye test, they still have a good RPI.

Bama fans might poison Mr. Palm.I mean a palm is a type of tree right?

Also RPI is a poor indicator of team strength.

See this article. The RPI Myth. It's a little dated but the main points hold true. Warning: long read.

UT and Bama are opposites this year. UT has great OOC wins while Bama has notable OOC losses. Bama has a great conference record while UT has struggled to a .500 mark in conference.

UT and UGA. UGA doesn't even have an impressive win on their resume.

At least UT has beaten a few good teams, though they've been trending down the past couple of weeks.
