But he could still probably win a national championship with the program Saban built.

That you think that is an insult pretty much highlights how fricking good it is to be an Alabama fan.

I didnt mean it as an insult.

I'm saying winning a championship isnt automatic once Saban leaves.

Do you think Alabama is going to hire some highschool coach or something? They hired Nick Saban and made him the highest paid coach in college football. And they gave him basically anything he wanted to build the program.

While it'll probably never be dynasty level after, Alabama will be in the hunt most years. Next guy will still get that same level of support.

Thats cool but its still just as much of a crap shoot as hiring a head coach at Notre Dame or LSU or Ohio State.

It was a math selector that awarded it that year. It was 1941,

quote:

1941: This is by far the silliest title claimed by Alabama, which went 9-2, finished third in the SEC and was ranked 20th in the final AP Top 25. Minnesota (8-0) is widely recognized as the undisputed national champion by being ranked No. 1 in 12 polls. Atcheson counted a title for Alabama because it finished No. 1 in the Houlgate System, a mathematical rating from 1927-58 developed by Deke Houlgate of Los Angeles.

quote:

In 1941, Alabama lost 14-0 at home to eventual SEC champion Mississippi State and 7-0 at Vanderbilt. Atechson defended the 1941 inclusion for years, arguing the Mississippi State loss came in the rain, the Vanderbilt defeat was close, and that Alabama was the country’s best team by the end of the season thanks to wins over Georgia (8-1-1), Tennessee (8-2) and Texas A&M (9-2).

LINK

quote:

You can read about all of the claimed titles and assess them for yourself at the above link, but the most absurd of all these national championships, without question, is the 1941 “title”, when Alabama finished ranked 20th in the nation, behind FOUR OTHER SEC SCHOOLS in the final AP poll. (Georgia finshed that season ranked 14, Mississippi State was 16, Ole Miss was 17, Tennessee was 18 and Alabama was 20th.)

So how did Bama end up with the “title?”

quote:

Wayne Atcheson, their sports information director, just gave it to them nearly fifty years after the season ended because a random LA stat guy said Bama was the best team that year.

And no one even blinked.

If you make something up and stick to the lie, eventually people even accept it as the truth and start bragging about it.

In 1941 Alabama lost 14-0 at home to Mississippi State and was held scoreless by Vanderbilt in a 7-0 defeat.

So how did Bama’s superfan, who with five national titles claimed for Bama, has one more Crimson Tide title than Nick Saban, defend the 1941 inclusion.

He argued that the Mississippi State loss came in the rain and the Vandy loss was close.

you can't make this stuff up

Maybe it should have been... but the fact is LSU won by 5. Of course, luck does count.

Wasn’t LSU near the goal and taking knees in the final minutes. Could have easily punched in another td like the two drives before if they were worried about the score only being 5. Kinda wish they would have because I have seen so many Bama fans claim how close the game was and in reality it wasn’t.

I've said multiple times I don't consider it legit. Are you just posting because that is the only title you can post about?

And of course, you still can't name a selector for the ones you say Auburn could claim. Is it because nobody but Auburn thinks they should be National Champions for those years?

If the 40 yard line after recovering an onside kick is near the goal line, then yes.

Otherwise, LSU iced the game with a 1st down run near midfield and then ran out the clock.

The NCAA recognizes Auburn as NC's. Auburn doesn't. Also, the NCAA does not recognize all of bama's "claimed" NC's.

You had a fan boy SI that started "claiming" NC's overnight. bama fans cling to this when your beloved bear would not let bama "claim" them when he was there. In fact, bama waited until he passed to start "claiming" them. That is the funniest thing about all of it to me. Your beloved knew they were BS.

no. we can talk about the NC's you "claim" when you lost the bowl game. Or the ones you "claim" from polls that weren't in existence at the time..........when there were polls handing out NC's during those years.

Stop trying to legitimize bogus NC's that everybody but your grandparents know about.

On the one hand you want to completely ignore how things were done at the time.

quote:

On the other hand you are pissed off because all national titles claimed prior to 1936 were done retroactively.

So back to 1941 in the post that was supposed to be about things other than 1941.
