I think he meant that he saw in person

“Tom Brady played really good against us when I was (head coach) at Michigan State,” Saban recalled of the 1999 intrastate rivalry. “We actually won the game, 34-31, … but it was because they played a different quarterback half the game. If they’d have played (Brady) the whole game I don’t know what would have happened.”

It was greatest QBs he's faced, not seen.

Obviously Tua would not be on the list.

Actually it wasn't...

For 15 seconds in the back half of the event, Alabama’s football coach wordlessly chewed on an open-ended question in the spirit the sport’s 150th birthday. He shrugged, looked around the room and loudly exhaled.

Who was the best college quarterback Saban’s seen in his 67 years?

Three legends and one current undergrad made the cut in a long, winding answer that followed.

Guess Bama fans can't say "Only reason AU won it all in 2010 was because they had a once in a generation type QB that won it all single handed"

Guess we were just that great in 2010, I mean the great Nick pretty much said it.

Rex Grossman beat him 44-15 and passed for 464 yards and 5 TD's, so maybe his memory is slipping.

And that year he won the SEC title, so LSU was no slouch.

That seems to be the case. Gotta wonder if his mind slipping had anything to do with some of the calls in January (fake FG).

Time is undefeated.

That one was surprising to me.

Can't imagine Saban would pick him without the NFL success.

Did you actually read the article? Saban basically ignored the "college" part of the question when it came to Marino and spoke only to his NFL career.

Probably figured that if you had to be on the sauce, you were disqualified.

Yeah I think he went more “best QB’s at any level”, which is crazy to think he included Trev over some of the NFL guys he faced.

This is one of your worst efforts, Willie.

I expect better from you.

I don’t think Saban was trolling, seems to just be giving his honest opinion.

Evidently, he's not going to name any of the QBs who played for him. Probably to avoid hurting any feelings among his former signal callers. I think it's fairly obvious to any and everyone however, that Josh freaking Booty was the best college quarterback that Saban has ever layed eyes on. Every opposing team competing in the FBS is lucky that Saban and Booty were only paired up for nicky's inaugural season at LSU which ended with Josh Booty being named the 1st team All SEC QB. Bill Walsh himself is already on the record saying that Booty was the greatest high school QB he's ever seen.

Seen, in this case, was who he faced.

You have to use context clues based on the question asked.
Typically a sentence includes a subject and a predicate with some nouns, pronouns, verbs and occasionally some adjectives.

He lit us up in the Orange Bowl in 1999 (2000 Bowl game, 1999 season).

34/46, 369 yds, 4 TD/0 INT
