and what? Saban, and most Alabama fans, are ok with admitting that Lawrence is a very good college quarterback. It isn't surprising either, at least to me, that Saban would not tout his own qb. Why put that kind of pressure on your own player? Plus, there is the slight case of motivation.

It takes a special kind of a loser to mock or belittle an especially talented athlete like Tua Tagovailoa, the ncaa record holder for passing efficiency in a single season.

Does Nick have to use a step stool when he's behind the podium?

Who mocked/belittled him?

I thought it was surprising that Saban would say Lawrence but not Tuna.

That seems like a compliment from me.

Yep, Brady couldn't beat out Brian Griese or Drew Henson at Michigan.

Saban getting old and senile

That one was surprising to me.

Can't imagine Saban would pick him without the NFL success.

I didn't watch the video but Saban has a reason for everything he does.

It's a real good bet that in this case, he's trying to motivate his own qb and his own team. Rub it in a little bit. See how they respond.

I'm old John. Let me at least imagine that Saban's Evil Empire will end in my lifetime

This is what he said:

quote:

Tom Brady was an opponent Saban faced both as the head coach at Michigan State and the Miami Dolphins. He cited a 1999 Spartan game with the Wolverines in his answer Thursday evening.

“We actually won the game, 34-31 or 31-28,” Saban said, getting it right the first time, “but it was because they played a different quarterback half the game. If they’d have played him the whole game, I don’t know what would have happened. We had an opportunity to see a lot of them.”

Brady threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns while sharing time with Drew Henson in a season that, coincidently, ended with Michigan beating Alabama in the Orange Bowl.
