per Lucky on Bol;

Spoken to numerous sources this spring and summer .... people that are close to Coach Saban.

The general consensus is that Saban has mellowed to some degree and his having the most fun of his career -- and this was happening before this past season's BCS Title.

The general consensus is that he will coach another 8 to 10 years. I tend to agree with that timetable.

He is very aware of his legacy and where it stands now and what it could be.

I heard from Dean Legge that Richt cried last night because Kathryn brought home Banna Pudding ice cream and he wanted Rocky Road. Stay tuned.

He hurts his legacy by staying at Alabama. Bear Bryant is the legend at Alabama. Nick Saban could have been a Bear Bryant type figure if he had gone to a school that didn't have such a winning tradition before him.

In the NFL he is known as a quitter and a liar.

"Hall of Famer ex-coach Don Shula lambasted Nick Saban on Wednesday for quitting the Miami Dolphins after two years to take a job with Alabama, the Miami Herald and other news organizations reported.

''He has run away from the challenge,'' Shula told the Herald. ''It's unbelievable. There were four or five direct statements that were blatant lies. That tells you a little bit about the guy.

"The guy likes to hear himself talk and then doesn't follow up on what he says.''

You're using a Shula quote to define the NFL's attitude toward Saban?

I guess Parcells and half of the NFL sucks also, since Shula thinks poorly of them.

No reason for Shula to have sour grapes...
