It's laughable how some of you think Don Shula's statement was based solely on the fact that his son was fired from UA. I'm sure that was a factor, but do you really think that is the sole basis for his opinion of Saban? You don't think the way Saban left the Dolphins influenced his opinion even a little bit? Please.

I think his anal unease can be attributed to the fact that the coach of the team he used to coach left said team to take over at the place that just fired his son...

Not exactly a impartial observer..

Don't let the fact that he actually did lie get in the way of your opinion. You can be a great coach and a liar. It happens a lot. But please don't act like he hasn't publicly lied.

My opinion of the matter is that he said what was appropriate at the time, both for him and the organization.

Yep. "We had the want to make offensive changes."

Sure.

"I am not banging my assistant."

Shades of grey. I am comfortable with them. You, it seems, are not.

"I will not be the next coach at Alabama."

People refuse to acknowledge that at that point, the statement may have been factually accurate. However, the situation may have changed and his intentions also.

Whatever helps you sleep at night. You'd feel the same if the "shades of grey" were coming from someone at Auburn....someone like Cam Newton or Gene Chizik?

Not to mention the fact that had he said anything OTHER than that his entire team would have quit on him. Coach's are put in situations like that where they have to make the decision to either A: lie for the greater good of the team they are coaching or B: tell the truth and send the team into a downward spiral that they may not come back from anytime soon.

If you want to blame someone for Saban making that decision, blame the fricktarded reporter for actually believing he would get a factual answer to that question. I guarantee that that reporter left that press conference with the exact same opinion he had 3 seconds before asking the question. They ask those questions for the sole purpose of being able to bring it back up later so they look like some shining superstar for calling them out on it.

The art of journalism is dead and it has been replaced by the TMZ revolution. It's pathetic.

In the NFL he is known as a quitter and a liar.

"Hall of Famer ex-coach Don Shula lambasted Nick Saban on Wednesday for quitting the Miami Dolphins after two years to take a job with Alabama, the Miami Herald and other news organizations reported.

''He has run away from the challenge,'' Shula told the Herald. ''It's unbelievable. There were four or five direct statements that were blatant lies. That tells you a little bit about the guy.

"The guy likes to hear himself talk and then doesn't follow up on what he says.''

I will never put much stock in the opinion of someone known as FourThinInches.

I will simply snicker.

Don is just pissed that he hung onto the Dolphin gig about two decades too long, thus tarnishing his own legacy.
