UPDATE: 12:50 PM
MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (AP) -- Negotiators have been talking through a 4-inch-wide ventilation pipe to a man holding a 5-year-old boy hostage in an underground shelter in rural Alabama.
The standoff entered its second full day Thursday after authorities said a gunman pulled the boy off a school bus and killed the driver Tuesday.
The police chief of the adjacent town of Pinckard, James Arrington, says that the two are in a bunker that's about 4 feet underground and has about 6-by-8 feet of floor space.
He says the man identified by neighbors as Jimmy Lee Dykes has been sleeping some.
The chief also says the man holds strong anti-government views and the FBI has reason to believe the shooting of the driver was a hate crime.

Update
Dale County - Law Enforcement is still on the scene going on into day 3. Negotiations are still going on, but so far no change. The brave young man is reported to be doing fine. The suspect is giving him his medications and appears to be taking good care of the boy.
Law enforcement would like to thank everyone who has volunteered and donated food and water while this going on. Most of the law enforcement has been on scene since this all unfolded and has not left.
Sheriff Olson ask that everyone still remain vigilant and keep praying for the young boy and that this can be resolved as quickly as possible is the safest manner for both the boy and law enforcement.
Candlelight vigils have been held and will continue to be held until all is resolved. We don’t have a list of locations or times for any of theses.
We will try to keep everyone up dated on the situation as information comes available.

Those who live near the man holding a young child hostage say they feared Jimmy Lee Dykes. They talk about what they consider the "strange" things he did including beating a dog.

Little tidbit ..the guy that helped build the bunker is now saying it was stocked up with enough food and supplies for 3 months. He also has a tv inside.Other than that nothing new.

Okay here is what I got :Guy is a Vietnam vet.He had court today for a menacing charge. He patrols his property daily with a gun.He was an a-hole for a neighbor.Police never would follow up on complaints from.the neighbors. He wanted 3 kids from the bus.The o.e he has who in fact is Autistic passed out when he shot the bus driver.
I believe (myself)that this is premeditated.I think he has stocked piled food and supplies in his bunker that he has built.I see no end to this in the near future. That is my opinion. The bunker is about 1/2 off the road up a hill on 231 north. The feds have set up a mamonth size control.center.It looks like the infield of Talladega.

per Lucky on Bol;
Spoken to numerous sources this spring and summer .... people that are close to Coach Saban.
The general consensus is that Saban has mellowed to some degree and his having the most fun of his career -- and this was happening before this past season's BCS Title.
The general consensus is that he will coach another 8 to 10 years. I tend to agree with that timetable.
He is very aware of his legacy and where it stands now and what it could be.
