This idea had a lot of traction across college football circles over the last year or two. Was wondering if people still think this is a good idea?

I don't think Saban is the guy for it. He looked flustered on GameDay last weekend, and there will be a lot more pressure than Pat, Kirk, and Rece if he is named CFB commissioner. He'd be a great advisor to the commish, but he ain't it.

no. it had a lot of support by media dbags. i mean just look at how Saban helped handle the Kiffin situation. he did exactly what Sexton told him to. Saban isn't some saint.

It’s rapidly turning into sh1t. Saban is respected by all. He can fix it in a week if given the power.

Why would this matter? What would this accomplish? What power would a "college football commissioner" have when the NCAA loses just about every court case when their rules/decisions are challenged?

I don’t know. It wasn’t my idea. It just seemed like a very popular idea that was thrown out there by sports media and fans. Was just wondering if the idea still had legs or if people were over it.

Saban may be the best football coach that ever existed.

That does not make him qualified to address the issues now plaguing college football. As a matter of fact, it’s the sports clinging on to that kind of mentality is a part of the problem.

On other words, drop the fig leaf of pretending this is something about college or amateur sports and just bare knuckle business fight from here on out

I mean, he was correct on everything he said would happen to college football over the last several years and folks on here made fun of him saying he was scared or whatever. I think he and Josh Pate would make a good combo to run college football.

This is a very good answer.

No matter what you think is deserved regarding the players, most everything we generally consider "wrong" with college football right now is the result of a lawsuit overseen by a California judge, or the programs running scared over perceived liability.

The NCAA allowed it to get to this point when they didn't get out ahead of it and refused to act until they were challenged.

No one person can put this genie back unless everyone agrees unilaterally to some guardrails. And the programs with backers trying to buy their first title aren't going to do that.

It's not Nick they need to run shite past. it's Ms. Terry.

He will lend ideas to help make it run smoothly and correctly, but there's absolutely zero chance he will step into that role. His life is far too uncomplicated and stress free now.

I honestly think the only path forward is some sort of CBA (although that path is fraught with legal issues as well). Athletes.org recently published a draft framework CBA (the PDF is available on their website: https://www.athletes.org/cba/)

We'll see if they get any traction.

This article provides a summary of what Athletes.org is proposing if people are interested: College Athletes Release Model CBA Framework – What Could This Mean For Universities?
