because the conference as a whole is weak

I dont agree. If the members of a given conference are more or less even from top to bottom, or at least 2/3 the conference is bowl eligible but yet there conference records are not on par with the top teams in the sec, big12 and pac10. This doesnt mean the conference is necessarily weak, just that maybe the conference has more parity.

I think playoffs are a great idea! Out of all the bowl games every year, only about 6 of them are worth watching.

What gets me about the situation is that many if not most of the national sports media that have railed against the BCS through the years aren't even big college football fans. People like Mike Greenberg from Mike and Mike in the morning. He openly admits that college football is like his 5th favorite sport and says many weekends in the Fall he doesn't even watch. You have many others like this as well..... It's become a soap box issue for many in the media that really shouldn't be driving the debate at all.

ETA: Wilbon and Kornheiser are two more prime examples (not to pick on ESPN).

I've actually noticed this, as well.

This pisses me off. There are far more important things the government needs to worry about than a playoff system in college football and your ncaa basketball bracket. The economy is in the tank and we have troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. Do the job you were elected to do and stop trying to be the countries most popular president. It's ok to have a little fun while being president but having legislation about the f-ing national championship is a bit much. There are far more pressing matters.

and on a side not stop messing up my tv watching at night.

To be fair, this is about antitrust issues, not just the schools and the sport.

WaldorfTiger, I was referring to the losses of OOC games, not the parity among conference members. Actually, looking at the numbers, the Big 10 and Pac 10 did worse as a conference than the ACC and Big East. The Pac 10 also played fewer OOC games than any other conference, but that's a result of their conference setup.

LINK

You can see that the MWC had better OOC percentages than both the Big 10 and the Pac 10, but their two champions would get automatic bids and the MWC would have to hope for an at large.

Yes.

With a playoff you get teams that don't deserve the championship winning it.(Fresno St., NY Giants, and almost Arizona Cardinals)

The BCS has gotten it right every year.

So you are saying that the patriots should have won, and the NFL got it all wrong? riiighhhtt. The cardinals team i watched play in that super bowl looked like they deserved to be there as much or more than anyone else in the league. The last two super bowls were 2 of the best ive ever seen.

The government is not gonna be happy till we are all on our knees begging for a few pennies thrown our way. They want to be involved in everything because they are power hungry and dissinterested in what they are voted in to do.

After the SuperBowl

Pats record 18-1(With a win @NYG)
Giants record 13-6(With a win over NE on a neutral site)

The Pats had a better season and a better win over the NYG.

Too bad that was a fraction of the season.

Which has everything and nothing to do with the matter at hand.

Thats why they have the playoffs. The Pats couldnt win the BIG GAME therefore they did not deserve the trophy. And who cares if that was only a fraction of the season, that is why the playoffs exist.

Wow they have the same thing in CFB(See 05 USC a.k.a. THE GREATEST TEAM EVAR) and yet the regular season is still meaningful.

You can't be the NYG and jack around and finish 10-6 and still be considered worthy of a chance at a championship.

To devalue the regular season? Good argument.

The NFL happens to be an example. I listed another Fresno St.

The point of this discussion is CFB.
