ingram would be better served being traded to somewhere that was.
The Saints didn't pick up his option, so he will be a free agent after this season. He can go wherever he wants.

I'm not a huge fan but I do follow them. The guy above you was right, Ingram doesn't fit Payton's scheme very well. Peyton likes backs that can be productive in the screen game as well as run between the tackles. Ingram is decent between the tackles but has really struggled in the screen game, which is why his touches are limited.
The saints entire offense is centered around the screen game.

What you just said, is the point of much of this thread.
You called Ingram a bust, not sure if you were serious or not. Then you say he didn't fit a Sean Payton offense. Should Ingram be seen as a bust because he didn't fit the scheme? I would say whoever drafted him was a bust.

I think Loomis made a mistake (which he doesn't do very often in the draft) taking Ingram in the first. That doesn't change the fact that Ingram, as a 1st round draft choice, has underperformed. Whether it be because he wasn't good enough to solidify a starting spot or because he always seem to have nagging injuries.

The first round of the draft is to get the best players on the board. I get that. But in the first round you see teams taking players that don't fit just because the player is considered good. I think the real draft normally starts second thru rounds.
This years first round seemed different. It seemed like teams were looking more at need and less about best player on the board.

quote:On very limited carries. Mark Ingram only rushed for 386 yards in 2013, and 145 of those yards came against that atrocious Dallas Cowboys' defense (gave up the 3rd most yards in NFL history).
ingram was good last year. was at about 5 ypc in 2013
quote:The New Orleans Saints aren't committed to running the ball with a terrible running back. That's why Chris Ivory, Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, and others have been more successful running backs in recent years. They made plays when they were in, while Mark Ingram was "2 yards up the middle..."
Saints are not committed to running, ingram would be better served being traded to somewhere that was.

You don't see that as a system problem? Saints use scat back types for most of the game, then they have to wake up Ingram to try to get the first down. When he came in he was going up the middle or blocking.
And didn't they trade some of those better running backs?

quote:There's probably a reason for that... It might be the only thing they have faith in him doing. He's been there how long now? He stays buried on the depth chart, and that's on a team with some pretty weak running backs...

Mark Ingram just isn't good.
BTW, a little food for thought... Guess how many 1,000 yard seasons Mark Ingram has had since high-school... If you guess one, you are right. His Heisman season at Alabama is the only 1,000 yard rushing performance he has had since high-school. That's weak.

Did I hurt your feelings some how?
Who has been productive? I know Ingram has been hurt a lot. But when he was drafted they wanted him to beef up. Put on weight. Why?

Ingram hasn't gotten opportunities in the screen game because most of those passes went to Sproles or pierre thomas.
and I really don't understand the way they use their backs. One of the poster above mentioned Ingram's game against the Cowboys last year. The next game, he ripped off two or three really good runs at the beginning of the 1st Quarter. And then doesn't see another carry for the rest of the 1st half.
At Alabama Ingram got stronger and better as the game wore on once he gets a feel for the game and starts to get in a groove. He also was great in the screen game for us. The Saints don't try and put him in positions which play to his strengths very much.

Just pulled 2013 stats.
Pierre Thomas lead team with 549 yards on 147 carries.
Mark Ingram 386 yards on 78 carries.
So Ingram was second in rushing on a team committed to the run.

We were talking football. Then you roll in with smart asks comments. And the injury talk was about the number of games played, than about his injuries.
If you want to talk football, how can the saints be committed to the run?
