Better to have been than your team sitting on the couch during bowl season wondering why they couldn't win a single SEC game.

The Big 6 is still Bama, LSU, au, UF, UGA, & Tenn. But Tenn is definitely trending towards being replaced by either USCe or aTm. Heck, it wouldn't surpise me to see both Tenn & au get replaced by USCe & aTm if Butch and Gus can't right their respective ships.

Not saying that this will happen to LSU necessarily, but fans generally tend to forget how quickly a team can fall from the top. Nobody is immune to undergoing a really bad 5-10 year run. People who scoff at the notion are being ignorant. Look at Tennessee. In the 90s, who would have thought that UT would be coming off 5 miserable years while LSU thrived as a consistent MNC contender?
Although what you are saying is true, Tennessee is in a different situation entirely due to them having to recruit for the most part nationally and more limited TV exposure in the early to mid-90's that led to a great advantage to Tennessee. Those unique advantages are all gone now and it's a different football landscape. As long as LSU continues to recruit top 5 classes and keeps the Louisiana talent in state for the most part, I just don't see the big drop off all of you are hoping for.

The Big 6, like someone previously stated, was in regards to the 1st expansion the SEC did. Now after this new expansion, the SEC has become the #1 conference with more than just 1 or 2 teams being nationally relevant. Now the entire conference is.
So shouldn't we hold members of the Big 6 to higher standards than just an SEC title?

Wow just wow, you are so mad and butt hurt. BTW it must suck to have Jay Jacobs run your entire sports program into the ground, at least according to your fellow Barners on the SECR.

If big 6 is football only:
#1 Alabama
#2 Florida
#3 LSU
#4 Auburn
#5 (possibly) Tennessee since it was a BCS
So the Big 6 only has 5 teams

I forgot that LSU never capitalized to win 2 championships.

I do agree with this. UT has issues that aren't going to be fixed easily.

This is also true, but I would argue that today's college football landscape is even more conducive to teams rising and falling quickly. The amount of resources being devoted to college football at all schools creates a win or die mentality that leads to quick turnover. What Alabama is doing right now will not be the norm and is even more impressive considering what they are going up against.

I didn't say I was hoping for it. I respect LSU greatly and generally want them to do just slightly worse than UGA. I'm just saying it can happen to anybody, and quickly. Auburn recruited consistently at a high level and went 0-8 in conference this year.

Well, if you want to be short sighted and only say teams that win the BSCMNC then no one else deserves it. But that's your only argument against UGA.

It isn't like the Big 6 is a real thing. Why does anyone care? My understanding is that it is a concept that came up as it relates to the imbalanced schedule during the first SEC expansion. The Big 6 would be split up and play one of the others on a permanent basis as a way to make scheduling as fair as possible. Or something like that. That has little relevance anymore other than having already formed that scheduling pattern/tradition.

I actually totally agree with you. I would think Auburn fans would say Gene didn't develop that great talent and alot of that was on the coaches. The point is taken though and you can't take success for granted these days without a doubt.

I don't think so. There are still only 6 teams any given year that have any decent odds of winning the SEC championship. Now this coming up year, those 6 teams are Bama, LSU, UF, UGA, USCe, and aTm. So I guess I would see a point being made that the Big 6 has now reached a point where it changes slightly from year to year. But IMO, there is still only 6 that I think anyone in their right mind would attempt to put money on. So the real question in my mind is, has USCe & aTm permenantly passed Tenn & au, or is it just a temporary occurrance?
