I have noticed on twitter that DeMeco Ryan's name has been mentioned as the new DC for Alabama. What do y'all think?

DeMeco is going to be an NFL head coach as soon as 2023. He's not leaving being one of the best and brightest DCS in the NFL to come be the DC at Alabama.

If you want to make him the head coach sure but he’s not leaving where he is to be a college DC

If it was me and I hope this doesn’t happen but I would go all in on Glenn Shumann

1. From who? "On Twitter" is pretty vague.

2. He's DC for one of the best defenses in the NFL; I would be ecstatic to see him be Bama's DC

3. He just took the job as SF's DC; not sure he'd leave for the same job at a college that fast, even his alma mater. Maybe though.

If just as a thought experiment, then he would be an amazing hire. I dunno how long we'd have him before another team tried to get him as a HC, but still.

Schumann isnt leaving one defensive minded head coach for another.

A first year head coach (offensive minded) may pull him away to build an entirely new defensive staff and defense from scratch.
Or he just seasons at UGA for a few years and goes the Dan Lanning route.

He is the "general" consensus target and has been for 2-3 years since Golding became toxic in fan circles.

I also think most of us realize there is a chance he is to Kirby right now what Kirby was to Saban - attached at the hip and unwilling to make any move but to a good head coaching gig. And, after Tucker and Lanning, it's obvious that is a realistic path for him to see himself on. He will continue to do well at Georgia and will get a chance at a good P5 job in the next 2-3 years in all likelihood.

A name that should be mentioned is Blake Baker. Did well last year at LSU with the Lbs and is doing really well at Mizzou this year as DC

He has been. The deal on defense is whether Saban is prepared to allow a DC to come in and run their system. That's a big, big if.

Maybe this is Saban’s final evolvement letting someone else run the defense. I think like Jimbo and Miles giving up control of the side of the ball you know best is nearly impossible. But if anyone could do it, it would be Saban.

I truly don't know what he'll do over there. There are guys who run systems based on his base system but with evolutions that are fantastic defensive coaches (the entire Georgia tree being the most obvious). I think he'd prefer to do something like that. However, if he isn't able to do that or get Pruitt back from NCAA Jail, I'm not sure what other options there are.

All of his old lieutenants are basically head coaches or probably not leaving DCs now - Muschamp, Kirby, Tucker. Not sure where he would turn.

If Ryans was okay with the recruiting side of things he might end up a "HC-in-waiting" if Saban is actually wanting to retire soon. I honestly have no idea, but that might be appealing if Ryans knew, for example, that Saban had a plan to depart by 2025 (or become AD at that point, something like that)
