Except I'm not wrong

Whether I agree with it or not... as of 2016, it would appear that everything above the facemask is considered "the crown"...
LINK
I think a much closer approximation of what it should be is represented by this image:
I'd argue about half of that open green space in the front should be yellow, but the riddell connection spot and about an inch or so above it are not reasonably the crown.
ETA: Ultimately, it would seem that all of these should be down to the judgement of the officials/replay booth. It's tough to penalize intent, but there are some things that look simply like "football plays" and others that look "extra". We should be quantifying the difference much like basketball has a flagrant 1, flagrant 2 sort of situation. All of these hits are not equivalent regardless of the area where contact is made.
quote:
"It seems that some officials have been interpreting the crown of the helmet to mean the tip-top portion of the helmet only," NCAA Football Secretary-Rules Editor Rogers Redding said in a release. "We want everyone to understand that the crown of the helmet starts from the area above the facemask to the dome of the helmet."

I’ve seen Sasquatch photos with better quality than those two pics
Nice troll though.

If you go to the next frames beyond the one you posted, you’ll see the hit is in the neck area. Which is what the rule states.
But why are you defending Bama? That really is a weird affection. They have beaten us and you haven’t in a really long time, so you get off on their success? That’s a little strange to me. But hey, whatever works for you.

I'm not defending Bama. I'm objectively comparing 2 football hits.

Considering he lets his wife dick ride his players, probably.

Why is this shite being posted by ATM. Get back to blowing people and wishing you were relevant. I am 100% certain no LSU fan gives a shite about your opinion.

According to what I'm seeing, the forehead is part of the crown. Keep going though. This is good stuff.
If this is the case let’s just get rid of football. Every tackle deserves a suspension due to targeting.

I feel like quite a few in this thread are pretty steamed about my opinion

Cool that you can still type while blowing a Gump. Impressive

And just so I’m clear, I’m not arguing either hit, I have more of a problem with ambiguity of the rule and the unfairness of the consequences. You just came out with breaking news analysis and made a stupid argument to support it with a one frame shot to prove your invalid disputation.
And by the way here’s the definition of ambiguity in case you need it.
am·bi·gu·i·ty
/?amb?'gyo?ow?de
noun
the quality of being open to more than one interpretation; inexactness.

Still pictures are funny.
One video will show the defender delivering the blow to the QB with his hands via a push. The other will show a player launching himself into the player with his head down under the chin.
It's kind of amazing to me to see so many SEC fanbases not only willing, but hoping to be the preferred little brother of Alabama. I always knew A&M was different, but I don't remember them ever kissing UT's arse like this.
Georgia has been the other team who seems to be energized by the idea of being viewed as "little Alabama". They seem to get hard every time someone calls Kirby "little Saban".

I thought the rule stated "head and NECK" area? The Bama hit was clearly a launch to that "area."

Top photo is text book targeting.
Bottom pic is not. We have photo evidence. Cases closed.

That’s the thing. Watch the video Mack didn’t launch, he opened his arms and moved fluidly through the hit. White makes that minor ram neck movement. That’s all they needed to throw the flag.
