So Auburn has had a few players leave the team over the last several weeks due to playing time and rumor has it we might lose one of out better receivers in Nate Craig Meyers. Turns out this whole new 4 week redshirt rule is hitting us significantly.

Is it hurting any other teams? You guys think this is a good rule? I was initially in favor of it and still am I guess since we should make rules which favor the college athlete, but there are definitely some downsides to it as well.

How is losing a receiver that has 3 catches in 3 games really going to hurt Auburn?

You think the rule has something to do with them leaving?

Seems to me the rule is there to help kids who don't get a lot of playing time.

Actually, fair question. My response would be that he is the highest rated WR we have had in a while so his ceiling may be higher than all of the other guys on our team? We aren't doing a very good job of holding on to elite receivers since Kyle Davis (our other really highly rated receiver) was kicked off the team last year.

If you've ever watched Star Trek you know it doesn't end well for the redshirt guy who separates himself from the team.

Quitters turn in their jocks and socks and the school still gets to pay for their education until they fine a new gig......I assume the schools still pay until they actually leave? Anybody? Bueller?

IMHO It is a good rule but it will hurt depth charts. Lots of good upper class players that aren't seeing the PT that they want will start leaving mid season.

I like it on the surface, but it will be interesting to see how coaches use it going forward as they get more used to it. For example, will they work a rotation to squeeze extra redshirts out or will they be more prone to burn them to keep from potentially being burned themselves by the graduate transfer rule down the line.

We played two freshman QBs last week against UNT instead of playing them against Auburn, where we're starting a more experienced QB who didn't play last week.

Gives you some options and different ways to handle things. We could theoretically start the freshmen in four games combined later in the season and still have their redshirts available, yet get them good experience.

It’s hurting Auburn the most right now because our HC is completely clueless at player development, personnel management, and play design to give his playmakers chances to make plays.

At least the kids who know they’re playing for a literal retard now have a little bit more protection and leverage against having their careers ruined by amateurish coaches.

Was the experienced QB hurt? Opportunity of learning and development isn’t worth the embarrassment that UNT did to y’all.

This is the way it is intended to be used. To give your underclassmen some playing time without burning a year of eligibility. Coach gets to see who is ready to play right away and who needs to more work while also rewarding those kids for working their arse off in the summer and at practice.

It was already like 37-10 by the time they got in so it was pretty much over. Our starter threw 4 interceptions lol.

Of course we didn't learn much about them because one of them got sacked about 5 times.
