The program is behind the times. But it's still one of THE programs, and in the postseason that stuff matters. Murphy is as good as it gets in having his teams emotionally prepared for postseason softball.
But they aren't going to win the national title and won't be a threat as long as he's here in his current form. Depends what the goal is.

Murphy is still one of the best coaches in the game as far as motivation and preparation, but others have said, he’s fallen behind in terms of offensive philosophy.
Long gone are the days of slappers and trying to manufacture runs with small ball.
Tim Walton looked like he was heading down this path the previous few seasons but went out and got him some elite hitters in the portal.

No, he’s just a bad developer of talent and really bad in game coach. But he built the program, so you can’t fire him until it completely falls off the rails.
Wish he’d fix the mistakes that have plagued his program for many years, though. A good hitting coach would do wonders.
