Yes, but receivers and running backs and offensive lineman know where most people are going to be and where they are supposed to block before the play starts.

Also most blitz pickups are called before the play starts.

I'm out, but it has been an interesting discussion.

Yeah, I really do not think it will help the D much if at all.

Like I said, I am getting a kick out of watching gumps get their hopes up that they may be able to beat Daddy again sometime soon. However, like Gus said, the IB trophy is gonna be staying in AU. We just need to make sure we protect our campus from the next updyke after a few IB losses in a row sets him or her off again.

Also their is a disadvantage to the offense because their players usually have to run farther to get in position for the next play than the defensive ones. So that is more work for them than the defensive ones more times than not.

My other issue is that it's not like you go into a game NOT KNOWING that your opponent is going to be running the HUNH... you know damn well that's what they are going to do... so.. plan accordingly. Nick Saban isn't sitting on the sidelines getting blindsided by this tactic, it just takes away the innate advantage of having a roster of 85 monsters vs whomever with less.

Why should a team that recruits well and develops well to the point that they have a team of "85 monsters" be punished for doing their job well as coaches and recruiters? Shouldn't it be the job of the coaches of other teams who don't have a team of "85 monsters" to recruit and develop better instead of scheming away the success of the other team?

Exactly this. Any fan of the HUNH is a fan of communism.

It takes more energy to be the chaser than the one being chased. In other words, offensive players know which direction the play is going as well as how to get there using the shortest distance. Defensive players expend more energy because they don't know where the play is going, forcing them to cover the whole field before finally deciding/knowing where the ball is going, and then spiriting like hell to get there before the offense turns it into a big play.
Defensive players usually don't have to run back very far on plays that don't get huge yards. Especially the ones chasing. The offensive players usually have to run all the way back and the ball is snapped about the time the ones that ran the most get back. So they don't really have as much time to reset as the Defense.

I guess we should beg the NCAA to change the rules so that EVERYTHING is fair to EVERYONE. There should be no advantage in any phase of the game, ever.

Lol. That's my point. How in the world are you being punished? Just because a specific tactic plays against your strengths does not equal punishment. Saban is punishing himself for not being able to adapt? John Chavis doesn't seem to have any problem stopping the HUNH. And the athletes are definitely comparable on both teams.

Why should all the smaller schools that can't get "85 monsters" because of location, school size, etc. be punished because a few big name coaches can't find a way to handle their play style? If anything it makes things more fair and makes the games more exciting for fans than they were when everyone was only scoring once a game.

the HUNH is a gimmick. it's like the "quick pitch" in baseball. it's bush league and it's chicken shite. i hope they do eliminate it. line up and play football beatch. quit being a pussy.

This. Also, running more than one play per game is ridiculous. Line up and run the same play every down like a man. Don't be a pussy.

UHHHH YES IT WILL CHANGE THINGS IN 2 WAYS.

First and foremost a head coach can now have preplanned subing paterns that he knows will work, 10 seconds from the time a player is tackled is plenty of time to sub, no trying to sub and the ball is snapped on 35 or 33 we CAN NOW SUB FOR SURE and keep players rotated.

Secondly, now defensive coaches that actually “ know how to coach ” can get instructions in to players, and adjust as needed.

Something is MASSIVELY wrong when high school coaches can come in and win big in college right off.....

THE GIMICKRY IS OVER

GET OFF THE GUS BUS.

“First off, [I] doubt it will pass,” Washington State coach Mike Leach said. “Second, it’s ridiculous. All this tinkering is ridiculous. I think it deteriorates the game. It’s always been a game of creativity and strategy. So anytime someone doesn’t want to go back to the drawing board or re-work their solutions to problems, then what they do is to beg for a rule. I think it’s disgusting.”

Like putting recruiting limitations on all head coaches because one head coach is willing to spend more time out on the trail than all the others?

If only they can pass a rule to keep Gus's offense from running over teams too. What you want next? No FBs. No Read Option. Maybe Gus should hold a sign up telling Saban who is getting the Ball and get his okay to snap the ball.
