This is beyond ridiculous and would lead anyone to believe that the NCAA has no authority regarding athletic transfers. So are they leaving this to the Universities to require contracts with their athletes? What happens if the athletes are only 17 when they are freshman, will they have to contract with a parent. Would the student athlete be in breach of contract if he transferred and have to pay back his NIL money? How is paying NIL money any different than the proffesional team signing a draft eligible player.

It all started with TV and big time college football

It's a story that's been told a thousand times.

Corporations seek short sighted maximization of shareholder profits without much thought for potential damage to the viability of a product/market in the future.

People grab the money they're willing to pay and fight with each other over their shares.

Shareholders make out like bandits while most people blame one side of the payroll or the other but hardly ever the exact corporate dynamic that's created to mess.

Public outcry causes government to step and make some order and creates regulations that the shareholders who got them elected suggest.

Not much the NCAA can do. They have been neutered by the courts.

So why isn’t that happening? Why hasn’t it happened?

Because there's no advantage or reason to do it? Ultimately the NCAA is the schools' and the money is the schools'. Why bother? The money goes in the same pot either way.

TV created the interest in college football. There are far more “sidewalk” fans of the sport than alumni for every team.

The interest was there long before TV broadcasts. Radio did far more to expand college sports beyond just city or uni based fandoms. Even in the era of color tv, television broadcasts of games were limited.

TV took the sport to a national audience. NCAA controlled the TV rights for FBS football until they got sued, and lost. This stuff is simple history, as in, it happened in the past and has led us to where we are right now.

Big mistake by Wisconsin

You never want to force someone to stay if they don’t want to be there

NFL players get traded and play the same season for another team

College football is in peril because the NCAA had to know what was coming
And did nothing

The NCAA should be eliminated

I don’t know the answers

But it’s clear the greatest sport on the planet is “self” destructing

I just hope LSU wins at least one more championship before it’s over

This will just expedite football and basketball bailing out on the NCAA and becoming their own entities. A college level CBA is coming to prevent this shite. Necessary evil at this point

Any time you think about what the NCAA does or did, remember it's a member institution.

My school, your school, and every other school was just trying to keep the gravy train rolling.

Don't just blame the NCAA, blame the schools.

How far away are away from players being able to transfer after their teams last game and play for a playoff team?

Sankey needs to get the B1G on the phone. All universities agree to not take people who do not use the portal as intended. If they can’t get unanimous consent from everyone, the SEC and B1G pull and do our own playoff without all the deadweight

frick Miami, I hope Wisconsin torches them in court
