If it went to his church, he is fine. If he accepted it personally before December 31st 2009, he would be in trouble, but if the payments began this year, he still can file an appropriate tax return.

LMAO if Cecil got paid and files a 1040-EZ like nothing happened. He should use some of that 200k to get a good CPA and possibly a tax lawyer.

If they play Cam after having met with the NCAA, what does that say about the situation?

They only met with the NCAA to turn over what they have on MSU. They won't get away with their shakedown attempt.

Do you believe that?

Impossible to say what it means right now. The final conclusion of what this will mean will have to wait until after all official investigations have been concluded.

My opinion is that if they play him, they are basically saying that winning the west and getting to the SECCG is more important than the long-term health of AU's football program.

Yep. I'm ALL IN with the fact that MSU tried to extort Bishop Newton. Starkganistan is just like Chicago in the early 1900's. Full of con men and shakedown artist. Dan Mullen = Scarface.

I don't get it if Cecil already admitted asking msu for money why is cam not immediately deemed ineligible? That is enough there.

This. I don't get it either - that is the smoking gun as far as I understand it. It makes Cam ineligible per NCAA rules

What the hell could State get by extorting from Cecil Newton? A paperclip and a twix bar?

More significant would have been a meeting with Auburn's administration. The meeting with the Newton's went something like this:

NCAA: So Cecil, you admit to soliciting on your son's behalf?

Cecil: Yes sir, but Cam didn't know anything about the solicitation.

NCAA: Sorry Mr. Newton, you are clearly an agent of your son and were representing him with you made the solicitation. This in of itself was a violation of NCAA rules. As such your son, might be rule ineligible after we meet and discuss the consequences.

I agree 100%. I still can't imagine any university would be irresponsible enough to play a player after that admission.

They met with the NCAA on Thursday.

If he was ruled ineligible he wouldn't be allowed to be on the bus, nor practice with the team.
