Yes they will have an individual champion after 3 rounds of stroke play by the teams that make it to California. Same format as the SEC Championships Where Jackson Koivan was the SEC individual champ, right before match play started.

NCAA
How the championship works
Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted to determine the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals (not on those qualifying teams) who will compete in the finals. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals (not on those teams) will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals (not on those teams). The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals.
All 30 teams and six individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following 54 holes of competition, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket thereafter.
In team match-play competition, a total of five points will be available with one point being awarded for each individual match. Winning teams will advance to the semifinals and subsequently, the finals. The first team to win three points within the team match will advance, or in the case of the final match, be declared the national champion.
TL;DR version:
Yes there is an individual championship over 72 holes at nationals. Mostly it will include the best guys from the best teams, but will include some good players on shitty teams.
*EDIT: or what BDG said.

So is OU the favorites to win the title?

Not sure how hard Auburn’s regional is but they are up 25 strokes on second place. They know their home course.

Not sure about odds, but my guess is we have an AU/UF rematch for the championship.

I would pick Auburn if I had to pick a favorite.
UF is playing well, but our #1 player (Gilligan) and hot shot freshman (Swanwick) are scuffling a little bit.

I get giving the smaller teams a shot and possible Cinderella story, but at some point it just becomes ridiculous.
AU (-32) beat USC Upstate (+60) by 92 strokes. That couldn't have been remotely fun for USC Upstate guys.

54 holes
92 strokes
only 1.70 strokes per hole
But they are all on different holes with different groupings, so they aren't just playing Auburn, and I'm guessing it's fun to have the opportunity..

Absolutely this. USC Upstate is obviously not Auburn good but I'm sure I'd trade my game with any of theirs.

I dont think Carolina is 100% in yet. Utah could still catch them, though our chances are really solid

Yes, I'd just rather get "routed" in a golf match than be out there getting pummeled on every play in front of 80 thousand football fans in a 60-0 football game.

There are probably over 100 balls I've left for the owls on that course over the years. Not a place for the right handed, swing plane challenged.
I was listening to an Auburn radio show over the internet this afternoon and the hosts said there were two AU golfers that put up scores that beat entire teams.

That SEC Championship tournament must’ve been wild.
