You know what is funny about this. If this happened to LSU or Alabama, Auburn fans would be trying to persecute the Tigers or the Crimson Tide. It is ironic how the ego operates when it is someone else's problems.
Personally, I think Cam did know all the time what was going on. How could he not know ? Let's face it, stuff like this goes on around the big time college campuses. Either you try to cheat, or you get caught cheating. No program has Mother Theresa as its COO. Everyone is looking for an edge and Auburn sold its soul for Cam. Just think about it, could you be Auburn for the next 5 to 10 years being Nick Saban's bitch ? Alabama sold its soul for Saban, Auburn compensated by buying Cam Newton.

What pisses me off is: where's the liability in this shite? Cecil was heading up his son's recruitment, I don't think that was ever denied. So if Cam made the decision to let his father do the recruitment talk for him, how is he not liable for anything that went on?
If I have someone handle my money for me, and he does some illegal shite with it, it's still my fricking arse because I agreed to let him handle my money. Is the precedent here that even though Cam let his father take over this process, he has no liability whatsoever for the way Cecil went about it?
I believe this is what everyone is alluding to with the precedent this sets. There's no liability on the athlete anymore. Parents can do whatever the frick they want on behalf of their child, so long as the child feigns ignorance on the issues.

If Auburn ruled Cam ineligible yesterday(11/30/10), because the NCAA found some wrong doings in his recruitment. Why wouldn't he be ineligible before yesterday? This shite is confusing.

Lars Anderson SI article on Cam Newton from 11-1 - before the story broke
quote:
Newton let his father make the final decision, and a few days before Christmas, while sitting at the dinner table in his brother's house in Jacksonville, Cecil Sr. uttered two words that would radically alter the college football landscape: "It's Auburn."

I'm still wondering why there were still a faction of people at Auburn who didn't want Cam to play in the UGA game.

No, because the school or booster would still be violating the rules.
If the player cant be held accountable for the actions of others in his family, how can the school?

what is being overlooked, primarily by auburn fans is that cecil was REPRESENTING cam. it doesn't matter whether cam "knew" or not. the ncaa isn't so stupid as to let that sophistry interfere because if they did, the floodgates would be opened and each college football team would start developing it's own paid farm system where parents get paid for having their kid in the system in exchange for the kid playing at the school.
cecil was, by defintion, cam's AGENT. agents obviate amateurism. the ncaa has already said they know about it. they also said it's not over.
if the ncaa does indeed rule that nothing happened, college football as we know it is over. parents can shop kids because there would be no way to prove that the kids knew about it and reggie bush should sue the ncaa and usc.

That is true. Cam was a legal adult when his dad was pimping him and Cecil was acting as his agent.

I am a TCU fan. A fan of the team that stands to benefit most from any action taken against Auburn at the moment.
I and other fans are fine with playing in the Rose Bowl(absolutely nothing wrong with that) and Auburn being in the championship game as long as Auburn is clean. Auburn has done much more than we have and our body of work when scrutinized is not impressive. Auburn deserves to be there over us based on what they have done on the field.
However it would really suck if Cam Newton is guilty and the NCAA is just sweeping all of this under the rug right now and then a few years later Auburn ends up getting it. Yeah, Auburn gets punished, but there is no way you can make up for keeping us out of the title game in 2010 in favor of a team that blatantly cheated.
Hopefully South Carolina can win on Saturday and make this all a moot point.
That's my view.

I am bookmarking this thread for the Auburn meltdown after the NCAA wraps up the investigation.
That is going to be an epic bump

I love the humility shown by the Auburn fans on this thread.

You can count on it...this was the NCAA making a ruling with no facts...just teasing Auburn before they really drop the hammer on them, despite no evidence of wrongdoing.

Let me get this straight.......a recruit can have his father, an agent, a banker, an attorney, a judge.......anybody ask a school for money for him to attend said school and as long as that player does not know about it he/she can attend said school without fear of punishment.
Let's see
Driver: "Officer, I didn't know I was speeding."
Policeman: "Oh, you didn't know, Okay, you may drive on."

My favorite part is this:
Cam Newton's dad and an agent shopped around their son for a huge amount to get paid for his playing college football. Cam Newton claims he didn't know about it.
The NCAA says they can't prove that Cam knew it was happening so....NO SANCTIONS.
Reggie Bush's family is on the take while he attends USC. USC claims they didn't know it was happening.
The NCAA says they don't care, we think you knew, and hammers them.
Apparently the "I didn't know about it" defense only works when the revenue that team with that player will generate in bowl games has yet to be pocketed.
