I lived through the Mark Gottfried years. Don’t even
I had Gottfried sign a poster at his last game that said “Proud member of the GottFired nation.” It actually made it to the front page of Finebaum’s website before he was even on FM. Try me

Auburn was the first of the two to make an Elite 8… achieving that 18 years before Alabama ever did.
Auburn was the first of the two to be a 1-seed in the Tournament… achieving that 24 years before Alabama ever did.
Auburn was the first of the two to go to a Final Four… achieving that 5 years before Alabama ever did.
Sorry but those are just the facts.

I applaud both you and TT, seriously. It’s not easy being a basketball fan in this state and I’ve been to NIT games in Coleman. I watched Gottfried implode, Grant bring excitement and fail, Avery do the same.
Bruce vs Nate made basketball relevant in this state on an equal level as football. Nate vs Steven doesn’t do the same but still, it makes March fun when both programs are relevant.

Gottfried was never as bad as you make him out to be. They had some players even late like Alonzo Gee

As much as people hated on Jay Jacobs, me included, he had a hand in hiring some of Auburn's most successful coaches. Gene Chizik, Gus Malzahn, Bruce Pearl and Butch Thompson.
Probably the best an AD has ever done with Auburn.

I love Auburn fans.
Fired because he couldn't win. Replaced with this guy:

Under Freeze, the Ole Miss football program committed various recruiting and academic violations that figured in the NCAA's decision to expunge 27 of Freeze's wins and ban the team from post-season play for two years. After university officials attempted to paint Freeze's predecessor as the main culprit, they were sued for defamation and they subsequently issued a public apology. The team's star quarterback and other players told NCAA officials that Freeze lied to them about the charges while he recruited them.
Freeze resigned from Ole Miss in 2017 after officials discovered that he had used a university cell phone to call escort services at least a dozen times over 33 months.

On August 11, 2018, Durkin was placed on administrative leave after Maryland was placed under investigation amid toxic culture allegations against the team after the death of player Jordan McNair. McNair was hospitalized on May 29, 2018 after showing signs of heatstroke and exhaustion while participating in a team workout, and later died at the age of 19.
Durkin returned from leave 80 days later, following the Board of Regents recommendation for him to stay. Damon Evans, the athletic director, announced the Board of Regents' decision to the team with Durkin present; Durkin later held a meeting with the team without other coaches, and several players walked out of that meeting. Due to intense backlash, Durkin was fired one day later.

Auburn fans trying to reason out Oats completely owning the greatest basketball coach in the history of their program, despite him being so much younger and less experienced at this level compared to Bruce Pearl.

Gottfried lifted the bar by going to the Elite Eight and then imploded. Won the conference in 02 but couldn’t even make it to the sweet 16.
Truthfully his tenure would’ve been different had he made it to the second weekend in 2006 but he couldn’t make deep runs and Alabama lost close to UCLA. He beat eventual champ Florida at home that year but the lack of tournament success combined with off the court BS did him in.

Also, clearly Nate Oats is Alabama's best coach ever. Let's call a spade a spade.

Durkin was cleared and reinstated. He was released due to BLM fever at the time.

Yes, nothing to do with a player dying or toxic culture allegations. Just BLM. As I said, I love Auburn fans. Ignore Hugh Freeze, defend DJ Durkin and chastise Nate Oats. Please keep going.
