This was something (allegedly) done BY a player on a team that now seems to have a culture problem

No, Bama had a rogue non-contributing player who did a horrible thing that nobody could have predicted. You coach long enough you’re going to have a problem player. You do your best to vet them but sometimes you miss.

Oats recruits high character kids who in 4 years have never had a hint of trouble until now. Freshman star Brandon Miller was raised by both parents in a good home and by all accounts might as well be an Eagle Scout. Name one other incident by any player under Nate Oats’ tenure at Alabama that shows they have a culture problem. I dare you.

except for the part where he proudly asked for a murderer’s advice. it’s okay, you don’t have to suck his dick over every move he makes. you can agree with people who call him out over doing something wrong. remember he doesn’t know you

Read his quotes. Pretty good context given by Nate.

""Just thought he has been through a tragic situation," Oats said. "One of the more mentally tough athletes in my time."

The advise Lewis offered to Oats was to share scripture from the Bible with the players and pray with them.

Lewis is a former Super Bowl champion and All-Pro linebacker in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens. Lewis was charged with a double murder after two men were stabbed to death outside a Super Bowl party in 2000. The charges were eventually dropped."

Imo, Cris Carter would have helped a lot in this situation

Asking Ray Lewis for advice on anything is stupid. Lewis was a roided out psycho.

Nice job Oats.

About 70% of African-American kids - who make up the vast majority of big time college basketball - come from single-parent, low income households where drugs, guns and legal trouble are part of everyday life. It’s worth pointing out and praising the exceptions. Of course, LSU has never had any problem players. Choir boys, all of them.

The challenge remains for you to point out a single other “culture problem”incident in Nate Oats’ program.

Several years later, Lewis reached out-of-court settlements with the families of both stabbing victims.

Why would an innocent man pay off murder victims families?

Not only that, the two who were eventually tried for murder in the case were acquitted on self-defense grounds, so technically and legally there were no murders.

There aren't enough therapists in the world to treat these levels of butthurt.

So he could move on with his life and not have to be dragged through a trial. Pretty common, and completely irrelevant to this conversation or the context in which Nate Oats spoke to him.

Imagine defending a murderer that destroyed evidence to beat a murder charge, and there's your bama fans of 2023.

To put it behind him, avoid lengthy civil trials and legal expense and to move on with his life and career, which he did.

I did too.

And I’d love to know how the convo started ‘so umm you know about murder’ - is quite the intro.
