Devonta is great, but he’s playing in the most pass-happy era in the history of the game. You’re probably too ignorant to realize that, though.

He’s an all-time great receiver, but not the best.

Great system, great coaching, 17 other receivers so you can't shade him etc.

These facts would only diminish Smith’s accomplishments. He’s a beast, but current rules, his coaches, etc have helped his rise. The greatness of Bama allows players to max out potential many times. Props to them.

This just makes it more impressive when guys like Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson achieve what they did in college.

Smith has had one of the most dominant WR seasons in CFB along with Larry Fitzgerald @ Pitt in 2003, Michael Crabtree in 2007 and Amari Cooper @ Alabama in 2014. Those are really the only other players who've had a similar effect on the game (where a defense had to game plan for essentially one guy) as a WR in the modern era.

Desmond Howard had more TDs than Smith and did it in 1991

I think you have to look at the entire team. Bama loaded with 5 stars even in the cheerleading teams, it so difficult to cover everyone and pass protection is excellent. Difficult to defend all. Not taking anything away from the young man.. he is outstanding and soon to be a wealthy man but to say he’s the best is stretching it a bit in my opinion.

He benefits from 2-3 extra games a year to pad stats and is in the right system. He’s a great WR but benefits from circumstances greatly. Not a GOAT.

Jamar Chase is much better. Devonta Smith is a one trick pony - just runs away from everyone while his QB sits behind that massive Oline waiting for him to break free. Jamar Chase will be a much better pro - stronger, better hands, better route runner, better blocker, more versatile.

Smith is really good but jeffrrson and chase are better. Chase can catch in a lot of traffic. We have not seen smith have to do that in college.
