My biggest concern with our offense: Play calling inside the 5

As many kudos as A&M is getting for having a potent, diverse offense, and how it has come to complement Reed so well, there is one big concern for me.
Once we get inside the 5, OC Klein seems to have a masochistic need to pound the ball inside. Doesn’t matter how much the defense stacks the box, he believes he has the OL and RB’s to punch it in.
He has gotten slightly less stubborn about it, but it’s still his leading punch and he only mixes it up part of the time. Bootlegs, counters, slants, and fades seem to disappear from the playbook.
If he can stop being so damned predictable, it may not bite us. If he can’t, I can see a couple of key possessions making the difference in a big game.

Thank you for the very painful reminder of what happened late in the fourth quarter against Texas last year.

Dont worry Texas fans know all too much how difficult and inept an OC can be when inside the 5 yard line.
I would start under center and if the box is loaded audible to a spread concept immediately, hoping someone is out of position and run 4 RPOs out of that concept.

Sark's play calling inside the five definitely is interesting

It boggles my mind how common this is.
I get mistakes in the “heat of battle” on the field. Execution mistakes, misreads, etc.
When it’s the cold and sober strategy you mapped out ahead of time and refuse to see isn’t working in game after game, I just can’t understand it.

Happened on the first or second A&M drive in the first quarter as well.

I hear you. It’s not easy to do when at least half the playbook must be scrapped.
It’s really more about talent winning one on one matchups instead of winning on scheme.

Seriously????
Here is literally EVERY AGGIE POSSESSION INSIDE THE 5 THIS YEAR:
TD pass 1 yd UTSA
TD run 3 yd UTSA
TD run 1 yd Utah St
TD run 1 yd Notre Dame
TD run 2 yd Notre Dame
TD run 1 yd Notre Dame
TD run 1 yd Auburn
xx 4 runs inside 2 Miss St
TD pass 2yd Miss St
TD run 2 yd Florida
TD run 3yd Arkansas
xx interception 3 yd LSU
TD run 5 yd LSU
TD run 1 yd LSU
TD pass 4 yd Mizz
TD run 1 yd Mizz
TD run 1 yd Mizz
We scored TDs on 15 of 17 inside the 5. Running, we scored 12 of 13.
Seriously, next time post about a problem that has actually occurred.

I do understand. Per AI, we averaged 30.38 points per game in 2024 and are now averaging 37.8 points per game in 2025. There is always room for improvement (and the competition has changed along with the Aggie offense) but they seem to be getting better. Hope it continues.

Le'Veon Moss coming back makes the goal line offense much more deadly

glad you "understand", but I'm not sure what. The guy is complaining about a strategy that has produced 15 TDs in 17 trips inside the 5 yard line.
That is likely the best mark in all of college football.

Fan perceptions of play calling are often way off the mark.

Why do you think that is? I mean with 95 yards of open field in front of yall the play calling should be wide open.

We'll you ain't going to be getting that close this weekend so it's a moot point...

Wouldn’t mind letting him shake off the rust a little against Samford if he can go though.

It’s occurred way way too often. While the five yard line as a standard marker be incorrect, we all have seen it all seen it way way too often in the red zone in general. Settling for FGs, Way too many 3rd and fourth downs needed to score from literally spitting distance. You obviously haven’t watched many games.

^ lol. even with facts staring you in face... you protest.
A&M is in the top 10 in the country in TD % in the red zone (27 of 37).
Guess you havent been watching.
