It's just a narrative created by the media mostly.
I do think he's a good coach, he has turned the program around fairly quickly. Nothing wrong with a 10-3 and 11-2 record. He just needs to take the next step, and beat UGA, and win the east next season.

I think Grantham is the weak in game coach.

Nice write up.

Is it really that difficult to out coach Kirby Smart?

He's 0-3 vs Kirby as a head coach so it must be difficult for MuLLLen.

You want to explain to me, then, why Kirby is 3-0 against Mullen head to head?

Last year the biggest difference in that game was UGA's O line. UGA won by 7 with a fluke call on a critical 3rd down.

2018 UGA had better talent

at MSU, UGA had tons more talent

It's not that difficult to figure out

Clemson is literally the second closest school to Georgia with the closest being Georgia Tech. 3rd is South Carolina and 4th is Auburn. All are within 3 hours of Athens, let alone the state of Georgia

UGA won by 7 because Kirby went soft defense and allowed UF to cut it to one TD with like 2 mins left. Mullen played right into it and dinked and dunked down the field in like 10 mins. That game was 24-10 with 10 to go. It was over.

I guess I understand is being more talented in 18 but isn’t that supposed to be where Mullen shines? Making 4 stars out of 3 stars? The difference between us that year wasn’t as wide as you would like people to believe. Mullen made plenty of head scratching calls (Putting that backup QB in) in the 2018 game as well.

He turned our offense around from being inept this decade very quickly

He's built a terrific scheme built on horizontal movement and quick action. It's done a great job of masking our mediocre OL the past two seasons

He sometimes overthinks playcalling a bit, but who doesn't

He's a very good in-game coach imo. Just gotta beat UGA this season.

Oh, it’s not that difficult. The answer is so obvious, Georgia is just out talenting Florida and Kirby is just beating Mullen with sheer brute recruiting and Mullen just can’t overcome it.

Cool, y’all keep him as long as you can.

No doubt, he does some questionable things with the qb substitutions, at really weird times.

With that being said Kirby has made quite a few questionable in game decisions as well.

This season will answer most of the questions about Mullen at UF.

Cool. y'all ain't won a natty in 40 years, and Kirby isn't going to get it done. No matter how much you think he will.

He had his chance and blew it.

Yeah I think he badly needs to beat UGA with all their offensive turnover this year for recruiting purposes; otherwise that gap may never narrow

Yep. When CKS wins it’s because he out-talented the other team. When he loses it’s because he’s a trash x & o’s coach.

It’s even funnier when you realize that 2018 class was sophomores. So our roster is only going to get better actually.

People see these recruiting rankings and actually think it makes an immediate impact that fall.

Mullen got State to be a #1 ranked team in 2014, he's a fantastic coach, his recruiting isn't the best.

Only UT fans think that.

UGA has a new O line coach, a new O.C., a new transfer QB. A tougher schedule. And no spring practices to install all that new shite.

This is the year, Mullen has to get it done.

True. If there was ever a year for it, it’s this one. UGA is going to reload, at least defensively, for the foreseeable future. Monken has his work cut out for him.

It’s just a common argument used against Kirby is how he can’t develop talent when his best class is still only rising juniors.

I think Mullen is a really good football coach but he coaches scared in big games, at least from what I've seen. He certainly did against Alabama while at State every time they had a pretty good team (2012, 2014, 2015). His best coaching job against us was 2017 where he basically schemed the game to shorten it and run for 3-4 yards every play. If not for Grantham's idiotic all-out blitzes it probably would have worked, too.

He is very, very good at teaching his scheme and coaching offense. I just think there are times in games when he either overthinks things or coaches not to lose.

By beating 3 severely overrated teams that all finished with 5 or more losses as the season went on.

People always act like that MSU team UGA beat in 2017 isn’t worth mentioning when discussing smart vs Mullen but they were just coming off the blowout of LSU and held within 7 of Bama that year. They finished ranked and ranked 17 going into the game.

The game vs UGA wasn’t close for Mullen.

Not to mention FSU and Miami are as low as they've been since the late 70s. Very few times have I seen one of the "big 3" have this much separation from the others
