I wouldn't want to play defense on a Mike Leach coached team either giving up 500+ yards and 40+ points per game. That definitely can't be beneficial to making it to the NFL.

He'll probably change to WR at OM and be a star.

Leach will consistently have better defenses at State than he had at Texas Tech or Washington State. State has had excellent to decent defenses under every head coach since Sherrill was hired in 1991.

During Leach's entire time at Washington State he had just one 4-star player on defense. State has nine 4-stars on the defensive roster this year. Well, eight now.

Good DB’s are always a priority with less competition.

You do realize that we have an entirely new coaching staff, right?

I was just replying to someone who made an extremely stupid comment.

Also, you know the defensive coordinator Miss St hired was involved in one of the best defenses in the country the past while, right?

Unfortunately not good enough to transfer anywhere in the SEC other than a spite location. Even Arky and Vandy wouldn’t take him.

Van Pran was the only one we missed on, but that’s kind of my point. You guys may produce SEC caliber talent but half of it doesn’t even go to Ole Miss or State usually.

You act like you were born yesterday, but we both know you’re the same fat tuba player that’s been on this site for 20 years

Check on how those kids went starting, say, 3-4 years ago and then prior as far as you like

And then, go frick yourself

After watching the kid play in high school, I’m surprised he’s a DB in college. He was not very physical at all. Even at WR, you could see his lack of physicality. He was just faster than his competitors. I have to say, it’s hilarious on Twitter seeing his former teammates at State roasting him.

If they merged we’d be a top 25 team every year. We’d be like LSU with only one major university in the state. We have enough talent for one school to be great but the talent split between two schools keeps us from ever sustaining success on either side. It would be awesome but will never happen

It would not be awesome if Ole Miss and State merged. frick those mother frickers.

You post seasons where Ole Miss had historically bad defenses as support for your claims. Hilarious.

It cannot be ignored Mike Leach's teams generally have poor defenses. He never had a defense which allowed less than 23 points per game at Wazzu. Basically, Leach's best defense at Wazzu would be middle of the pack in the SEC.

Half of his defenses at Wazzu gave up more than 30 points per game. This is a serious issue in a conference where the best teams do not allow more than 20 points per game (historically).

He posted the last 3 years. In college footballs, recent stats are the most important. See: O sucking at OM but being good at LSU.

No one is ignoring that, but he will have a SEC DC and SEC defensive players now. WSU is a low end school in a conference infamous for not having good defenses. Using those teams as a predictor at all is not very reliable.

You can't ignore history, bubba.

There is a common denominator in Leach's poor defensive history: it's Leach and his offensive style.

Y'all are gonna have some issues on that front and you can't escape that.

Leach also hired one of the best young DCs in the country. So we’ll see.

Wazzu is a good comparison to State, actually.

Both have losing records overall. Outside of Dan Mullen, who is clearly an anomaly, both have made about 15 bowl games. Both have losing records to their in-state rival. Both have significantly struggled with in-conference powers (Wazzu is 10-60 against USC and State is 18-82 against Alabama).

The bottomline is the access to Southern talent isn't going to change Leach's history, especially considering he will be facing much stiffer competition. Sure, he'll win some and it will be entertaining, but he isn't going to have some sort of a defensive renaissance after stubbornly doing the same thing (which he is very proud of, mind you) for 20+ seasons.

Look at what Leach gives up in losses:
2019 - 67 to UCLA, 38 to Utah, 38 to Arizona State, 37 to Oregon, 33 to Cal, 31 to Washington, 31 to Air Force
2018 - 39 to SC, 28 to Washington
2017 - 37 to Cal, 41 to Washington, 42 to Michigan State
2016 - 45 to Eastern Washington, 31 to Boise State, 38 to Colorado, 45 to Washington, 17 to MInnesota

He either overwhelms the other team offensively or gives up 30+. No way around that fact.

There's only one coach who has been able to consistently overwhelm teams offensive in this conference, and the HBC is retired.
