Mullen is the first coach to use State as a stepping stone since leather helmets. Every other coach in the last 50 years left tarred and feathered with their coaching future on the rocks

How is our coaching change a train wreck?

So you're saying when your target doesn't work out you don't just go promote the DL coach?

our coaching is a train wreck because we didnt wrap up an assistant coach who has absolutely no major college football HC experience instead of pursuing one of the three or so head coaches with a national championship who has averaged 10 wins a year for a near decade in a p5 conference

A&M's last three hires have been as good as you can expect in a search, just haven't worked out as you'd hope.

Let me clue in state fans who just got their coach poached by a better school. Hiring the new HC quickly doesn't mean you got a quality HC. You found the person desperate enough to say yes quickly to use your school as a stepping stone, just like Mull

Let me clue you in butt pirate. When was the last time A&M had a coach anyone wanted to poach? Was it Bear Bryant. I honestly don’t know because no one outside the state of Texas knows either.

This last part ruined your whole point. It worked out well for them with Mullen.

I mean that is the reason y'all filled the vacancy so quickly.

I hated the Sherman hire when it happened honestly and still think we could have done much better. I loved the Sumlin hire and I still don’t think his tenure was a failure despite what happened. We should have seen the red flags with Fran. I think the biggest difference with this one vs the last three is it seems the AD is running it instead of boosters.

This A&M/MSU fight is one I can get behind.

If we whiff on Fisher then I guess this thread might be warranted but as of right now that looks unlikely to happen. If FSU didn’t have a game this weekend our search is probably over already

Sumlin never cratered out, in today's climate there is something to be said for that. Just since 2010 we've seen programs like Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, etc. completely fall apart during a season.

Because we have a real aggressive, intelligent AD?

I couldn't agree more

Yeah and I think he had the attitude we needed switching conferences. Especially the first staff with Kliff. They were young and confident. Everyone talks about Manziel but the 2012 team had a lot of upperclassmen with a chip on their shoulder which helped that first year.

Once his recruits came in we lost that swagger and he didn’t handle the staff turnover well, but I don’t think he left our roster in bad shape at all

Nah, according to MSU fans, their untested OC -> HC is a way better coach than Fisher.

Yep. Had a gameplan, knew your limits, and went out and got it done.

The mistake y’all are making is one of shear arrogance. It’s not the coaching hires that are your problem. It’s the athletic department. Sumlin was wildly successful at a smaller school with less money and with boosters who didn’t try to run his program
