That's bringing us in too, but the market is still insane compared to what I'm seeing in Dallas

I'm 39 and was born in Austin - but have grown up in Leander/Cedar Park (extremely conservative). I think given where the workplaces are going to be I'm not sure if the far out suburbs like Leander and CP are ideal for you but areas like Balcones/Anderson Mill or Four Points (Steiner Ranch/River Place) might make sense. All have their pros and cons. As was mentioned, good luck on simply purchasing a home - even if you're going way over asking price with what would typically be seen as a great offer/financing, etc. someone with straight cash will come in for even more. Bought for $270k four years ago, could sell for $525k right now most likely, it can't be stated enough how crazy it is right now. If you ever need a lender...

How is that a selling point
- I mean, frick soccer but it's a better environment to drink and shite than dixie chicken.
- I was just referring to two world figures to show how safe those areas are.

I'm 28 and the fiance is 30, so we want to be decently close to the action. I've thought about Steiner Ranch but the only draw of that is being on Lake Austin. The airport isn't very conveniently located to much of the city which could be a problem. I'd rather have a long/expensive Uber ride twice a week over living in the middle of nowhere.

I am die hard conservative who has lived in the Houston area for thirty years. Austin proper has some of the worst traffic in Texas, limited options to live near the city center, severely liberal local politics, and outrageous property costs.
That said, I would be counting the days to move there if I were in your position. There is not a better urban boating lifestyle in the US. You should wear out that wakeboard boat. The weather is terrific, the surrounding hill country is gorgeous, and the job market is insane.
I'm not a fan of the term snowflake, but someone who would allow politics dictate that they avoid a place as beautiful as Austin would meet the definition of one.

My politics probably align very closely to yours, Travis is an absolutely beautiful lake and we love being on the water. We've put 65 hours on the boat since buying it back in November. Some of the most beautiful water around.
And while I hate traffic, I managed 6 years in Baton Rouge driving on I-10 everyday. God willing I'll spend Monday-Thursday out of town

Dear Transcend LSU,Your stupid and judgemental. My husband and I do not live in a Trailer Park and are not red Necks. My husband and I could buy and sell you 2 times over so act like you have money or class. But I will tell you Austin has become a shite hole. I live 30 miles from there and City of Austin has become a clown show!! every one with good sense is moving out.

Nobody from san marcos should have a right to talk, that place makes college station and waco look beautiful.

That's awesome. Head over to Canyon Lake for a change of pace. A day on the lake, a night of live music in Gruene and the following day on the Guadalupe is tough weekend to beat. All of the old Texas music scene guys make the rounds thru Gruene Hall, Floores Country Store and Austin during the holidays as well.

People telling you to live in Cedar Park or Round Rock are morons. That’s not Austin and never will be.
Living north of the river is for scrubs. Living east of Mopac is also for scrubs. Only exceptions to this are Tarrytown and Barton Hills.
Best options are Westlake, Rollingwood, Lost Creek, Oak Hill, or Circle C. Depends on your budget.

Never been to Canyon, but have a friend with a boat out there, also have some buddies on Medina and Lake LBJ. Unfortunately, Medina is drying up fast
