Funniest part of this expansion by far is the proclivity of all the mouth-breathing necks living in places like Lake Charles, Jackson, and Shreveport falling all over themselves to say Austin is a shithole. Based on where you both work, the age, and description... your best bet is Allandale/Brentwood/Crestview area.
Close to the 'action', good bars/restaurants close, parks, etc. and in between the Domain/Downtown.

That area is in a great location, houses don't stay on the market long there though!

Lakeway or Steiner would work for your lifestyle. Big tech means downtown or domain. Lakeway to domain would be a hike. Also consider NW Austin. My wife is a realtor and prices are way up but it isn’t as bad as it was six months ago.

I've given Steiner a good look, Lakeway is too far out for us. Seems like you can get some decently updated houses for a reasonable price there. Even Steiner to Domain is a haul.
