It has to be between Auburn, LSU, and Florida.

Here is each team’s AP preseason ranking and final ranking since 2020.

Team. 2020. 2021. 2022. 2023. 2024. 2025

Auburn: #11/nr; nr/nr nr/nr; nr/nr;nr/nr; nr/nr

LSU: #6/nr; #16/nr; nr/#16; #5/#12; #13/nr; #9/nr

Florida: #8/7; #13/nr; nr/nr; nr/nr; nr/nr; #15/nr

Auburn had a preseason ranking once, postseason zero.

LSU had 5 preseason rankings, three in the top ten, postseason two ranked seasons, zero top tens.

Florida had 3 preseason rankings, one in the top ten, postseason one ranked season, one top ten.

What’s worse, having no expectations and consistently losing... Or consistently failing to reach high expectations.

By talent rankings, it is Alabama, by a mile.

Post-Saban Alabama will be the biggest disappointment of the 2020’s when it’s all said and done, and there really won’t be a close second

Yeah, there’s a legit elephant in the room they weren’t mentioning. If you count 2020 as part of this decade all they have is an asterisk championship and a lot of disappointment.

This could be viewed from several angles and yes by talent is one way.

The other is success relative to resources-- and that goes to Aggy. And yes they made the playoffs but faded in the late season despite a huge budget and state-of-the-art facilities.

Aggy gonna Aggy.

I mean...we have definitely fallen from the great heights Saban took the program to in the last decade, but one national championship, three conference championships, and four CFP appearances isn't bad.

Curious as to what makes it an "asterisk championship". They ran the table... beating 11 SEC teams. They didn't play their normal cupcake out of conference schedule. And played, at the time... 2 extra regular season SEC games. Doesn't seem to asterisk-y to me.

Composite roster talent ranking vs. final AP ranking since 2020.

Alabama LSU

2020: #2/#1 +1. #6/nr. -20

2021: #1/#2. -1 #5/nr. -21

2022: #1/#5. -4. #8/#16. -8

2023: #1/#5. -4. #7/#12. -5

2024: #1/.#17. -16 #8/nr -18

2025: #2/#9. -7. #6/nr. -20

LSU has underachieved more every year this decade.

Well...for starters....

The 2020 college football "COVID season" was considered weak, disjointed, and "ridiculous" due to a combination of unprecedented logistical, medical, and competitive disruptions that fundamentally altered the sport.
Key reasons for the perceived weakness of the 2020 season included:
Disjointed Scheduling and Cancellations: Conferences started at different times, with the Big Ten and Pac-12 delaying their seasons, leading to uneven, conference-only schedules. Numerous games were canceled or postponed due to COVID-19 outbreaks within teams, such as at Michigan.
Opt-Outs and Roster Disruptions: Many star players, such as Micah Parsons and Michigan’s Nico Collins, opted out of the season to focus on the NFL draft or due to health concerns, severely reducing the talent level on the field.
Lack of Atmosphere: Many games were played in empty or near-empty stadiums, destroying the traditional, intense atmosphere of college football.
Health and Safety Risks: Players faced significant risks, with concerns over myocarditis and other potential long-term effects of the virus.
Poor Play Quality: The lack of a proper spring practice, interrupted training camps, and inconsistent preparation led to a lower standard of play on the field.
Unfair Playoff Selection: With teams playing varying numbers of games, the selection process for the College Football Playoff was seen as unfair, with 6-0 Ohio State making it over 8-1 Texas A&M.
Coaching/Logistical Issues: The season was marked by a lack of leadership from the NCAA, leading to inconsistent rules across conferences.
Essentially, the 2020 season was described as a "survival" campaign rather than a traditional, high-quality sporting spectacle.

Alabama going on a decade since their last title

It’s clear they’ll never, ever, win one again.

And that's your problem... turning you additional focus back to LSU. It must be mentally exhausting for some like yourself.
