I live in Mississippi, have since 2003. I'm allowed to say stuff like that

The best part of Mississippi is the Coast. Every other part sucks.

Which current events might even screw that up.

The Mississippi Gulf Coast isn't as nice as it was when I was a kid. The casinos have really trashed it. I can still remember going to Ship Island as a small child.

Yeah and if Obama is going as slow with his response as people are indicating I'm surprise the Gulf states just won't leave the Union because the Gov't, regardless of who is in control, just won't help 'em out.

The University of Alabama does pretty damn well for itself in terms of academics. Hell, Alabama and Auburn are both top fifty public institutions

What does that mean, given that their are only fifty states?

Look, I am not going to get into a long discussion about this. Bottom line is that the state ranks in the bottom ten in just about everything that matters--education, income, business development, health, you name it.....as do most Deep South states

And spending small fortunes on football coaches and everything else associated with college football when that is the case is just kind of embarrassing.....

Again, Alabama is not unique in this regard in the South.....it is just the most extreme case, in my opinion.....

You realize not all public schools are the state schools right?

The GCC would be a pretty decent football conference. More than decent if you let the state of FL in.

You do realize states are allowed to have more than one public institution within their borders, right?

Very few states can argue otherwise.

Again, the football program sustains itself. It also generates money that goes towards academics, as well as facility improvements for the University as a whole. Not to mention the economic impact it has on Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas.

You know, practically every statistical difference between Alabama and Mississippi that some of you take such relish in pointing out is explainable entirely by the fact that Mississippi's population is 37% black whereas Alabama's population is only 27% black.....including obesity, income, and everything else.......which is also why Mississippi produces more NFL talent per capita

It really is a waste of time to get into that kind of a pissing contest, so I am not going to.....

It's called the I-10 corridor. It's a recruiting emphasis for both Alabama and LSU.

What will we name the state? Or will we become a country?

Gene Taylor is the governor/president/dictator and will be as long as he wants.
